Sri Lanka Tourism Shows Strong Recovery in 2025 – Over 2.25 Million Arrivals..👌
Sri Lanka’s tourism sector continues its impressive recovery, according to the latest data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). As of mid-December 2025, total tourist arrivals have reached 2.25 million, reflecting strong and sustained growth throughout the year.
This achievement comes despite temporary disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah in early December, highlighting the resilience and stability of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
📈 Strong Growth in November In November 2025, Sri Lanka welcomed 212,906 tourists, marking a 15.6% increase compared to November 2024. By the end of November, cumulative arrivals stood at 2,103,593, representing a 16.6% growth year-on-year.
Although May recorded the lowest arrivals (132,919), the overall trend for 2025 shows a steady and consistent rebound across most months.
📊 Consistent Monthly Performance Double-digit growth was recorded in January, April, May, June, August, September, October, and November, demonstrating Sri Lanka’s growing ability to attract visitors beyond peak seasons.
Notably, September recorded the highest growth rate at 30.2%, indicating increasing success in promoting year-round tourism.
🌍 Europe Leads Source Markets Europe emerged as the largest source region, accounting for 50.8% of arrivals in November, with 108,100 European visitors. Winter travel demand and strong air connectivity continue to drive European interest in Sri Lanka.
🇮🇳 India Remains the Top Individual Market
India: 51,391 arrivals (largest single market)
Russia: 24,953 arrivals
United Kingdom: 16,915 arrivals
These figures highlight Sri Lanka’s strong regional and long-haul market appeal.
💰 Tourism’s Economic Importance Tourism remains a key pillar of Sri Lanka’s economy, supporting employment, foreign exchange earnings, and allied industries such as hospitality, transport, and retail. The continued rise in arrivals in 2025 signals renewed confidence in Sri Lanka as a safe, diverse, and attractive destination.
