On 29th of April, members of the Student Parliament visited the former Parliament building in Colombo and the President's Secretariat Office. The purpose of this visit was to provide the students with a firsthand understanding of the functions and historical significance of these important government institutions.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to meet and interact with distinguished officials, including the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and the Deputy Minister of Mass Communication. Their participation greatly enriched the experience of the students by providing insights into the workings of the parliamentary system .
Additionally, Mrs. Wasana Edirisooriya, the Additional Secretary (Education Reforms), participated in the event. Her presence and contributions were highly valued and contributed to the success of the visit.
Overall, the visit was a valuable educational experience for the student parliament members, fostering greater awareness and understanding of national governance and administrative processes.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival was celebrated by Southlands College on April 9, 2026. The aim of this event was to raise awareness among students about our rich cultural heritage. The festival beautifully illustrated the rituals of Sinhala and Tamil New Year, including religious observances, visiting relatives, and rituals connecting us with nature. Additionally, folk dances and traditional games added vibrant energy to the celebration, making it a memorable occasion for all.

With great admiration and gratitude, we celebrate the distinguished career of Mrs. Shahriya Samsadeen, a dedicated and passionate English teacher. Her journey in education is truly inspiring. Mrs. Samsadeen earned her Diploma in English from the University of Peradeniya and completed her Bachelor of Education degree at the National Institute of Education, Maharagama.
Throughout her illustrious career, she served as an Assistant Lecturer in GELT and as an examiner for Spoken English. She has taught English at prominent colleges in both the central and southern provinces. Most recently, she assumed duties at Southlands College on 3rd May 2023. Her unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching English and English Literature has profoundly enriched the lives of her students. Her remarkable contributions to uplifting students' English language skills and fostering their interest in drama and literature have left an indelible mark. Her expertise in the English language is truly commendable.
Mrs. Samsadeen’s dedication and professionalism have touched the hearts of many. As she embarks on this exciting new chapter of her life, we wish her a retirement filled with happiness, good health, and new adventures. Thank you for your invaluable service and the positive impact you have made.

The annual sports meet of Southlands College was held on March 13, 2026, at the Galle District Sports Complex. The event was a grand celebration of sportsmanship of students. The ceremony was graced by special personalities, including the chief guest, proud alumna Group Captain Dr. Priyanga Darshani Panangala ,USP, Sri Lanka Air Force, and the guest of honor, proud alumna, Miss Madushrini Wasana, Zonal Director of Education, Galle zone. Mrs. Chithra Bamunusinhge, Additional Provincial Director of Education, Southern Province, along with former principals Mrs. Leelakanthi Gunawardhane and Mrs. Sandya Pathiranawasam, and other invited guests, added dignity to the occasion.
Students from four houses such as Hellier, Hunter, Westlake, and Wiseman showcased their sports talents through exhilarating athletics and team games. The event also featured a magnificent band show, impressive displays, and drills, that captivated the audience.
In addition to the main competitions, games were organized for invited schools, teachers, and past pupils, fostering camaraderie. The event honored the dedication of Prefect of Games, Mrs. Nilakshika Weerasooriya, and physical education teachers including Mrs. Indu Amali, Mrs. Sasanga Thrimavithana, Mrs. V.K.P.N Sandunika, and Sports Trainer S.K.R Dilanka. House mistresses - Hellier House Mrs.A.K. Anushika Madumali, Mrs. Mihiri Liyanage Hunter Mrs. A. Ishanka Surangi Mendis Mrs. S. T. Waruni Nisansala- Wiseman House - Mrs. P.G. Roshini Srimali, Miss. K.D.H. Geethika Nishadani, Westlake house Mrs. Chammi Sajani Lasaras, Mrs. B.A.T. Nishanthi also played vital roles in supporting the participants and the event’s success.
The championship was clinched by Hellier House, which scored 743 marks, ending a several-year drought. Wiseman House was the runner-up with 700 marks, followed by Westlake House with 670.5 marks, and Hunter House with 628.5 marks. The students’ enthusiastic participation and the collective effort of the Southlands community made the event a memorable success.
The sports meet exemplified the spirit of love, service, and unity, bringing everyone together in celebration of sports excellence and school’s pride.
