කඳවුරේ නිවහන "කූඩාරම"

කෑම්ප් ටෙන්ට් එක එහෙම නැත්නම් කූඩාරම තමා එලිමහනේදී කඳවුරුකාරයෙක්ගෙ නවාතැන වෙන්නේ. මට මතක අතීතයේ කූඩාරමක් දැක්කනම් ඒ බාලදක්ෂ කඳවුරක, එහෙම නැත්නම් ආපදා අවස්ථාවක.
සුනාමි ආපු වෙලාවේදි, සාමසර කන්ද නායගිය වෙලාවේ/ යුද්ධයට පස්සේ අවතැන් කඳවුරු වල, විවිධ වර්ගයේ කූඩාරම් දකින්න ලැබුනා. එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ සංවිධානය (UN) / රතු කුරුස සංවිධානය (Red cross) වගේ ස්වේච්ඡා සංවිධාන මේවා ප්‍රදානය කලා. මේවගෙන් වැඩිහරියක් පහසුවෙන් එහා මෙහා ගෙනියන්න පුලුවන් තත්වයේ ඒවා නෙමෙයි. බර වැඩියි. ගමනක් ගෙනියන්න අපහසුයි. මේ කූඩාරම් නිර්මානය කරල තියෙන්නේ ආපදා අවස්ථාවලට ගැලපෙන්න. හැබැයි මේ ටෙන්ට් වල කල්පැවැත්ම ඉහලයි.

බාලදක්ෂ කන්ඩායම් වල ගොඩක්ම තිබුනෙ Troop tent. මේ කූඩාරමක 10ක් 12ක් පහසුවෙන් ඉන්න පුලුවන්. කාලගුණ තත්වයන් වලටත් හොදට ඔරොත්තු දෙනවා වගේම සවිශක්තිය අතිනුත් ඉහලයි. හැබැයි Troop Tent බරින් වැඩියි. යකඩ ටෙන්ට් පෝල්, පෙග් එක්ක කිලෝ 8ක් 10ක් වෙනවා. දෙන්නෙක් තුන්දෙනෙක් යන ගමන්වලට මේ කූඩාරම ඒතරම් ගැලපෙන්නේ නෑ.

දැන් තත්ත්වය වෙනස්. කඳවුරුකාරයෙක්ට ඕන විවිධ මාදිලියේ කූඩාරම් වෙලඳපලේ තියෙනවා විවිධ මිලගනන් වලට. One person ඉඳන් 6-8 වගේ නිදාගන්න පුලුවන් ඒවා විවිධ ලේබල් වලින්, විවිධ මිලගනන් වලින් ගන්න තියෙනවා. මේ අතරේ නමක් ගමක් නැති බාල ටෙන්ට් එහෙමත් තියෙනවා. මේ මාදිලියේ ටෙන්ට් 4 seasons tent / hiking tent විදියට හඳුන්වනවා.
දැන් එන ටෙන්ට් වල පහසුවෙන් කඳවුරු බඳින්න පුලුවන්. Moskito net/ side pockets වගේම ලයිට් එකක් උනත් එල්ලගන්න hangers වගේ දේවල් දැන් එන ටෙන්ට් වල දකින්න පුලුවන්.
හොඳ තත්ත්වයේ ටෙන්ට් එකක් එක්ක ground sheet එකක් හම්බවෙනවා. එහෙම නැත්නම් අපිට එකක් මහගන්න පුලුවන් ටැපටා වගේ රෙද්දකින්. ඉටිකොළයක් උනත් මේකට හරි.
ටෙන්ට් එකට පොලොවෙන් වෙන හානි අවමකරන්නෙ ground sheet එකෙන්. කෘමි සත්තු එන එක උනත් අවම වෙනවා මේකෙන්. ටෙන්ට් ‍එකේ ප්‍රමානයට කානුවක් හාරලා ground sheet එක දාලා කූඩාරම ගහන්න පුලුවන්නම් වැස්සට සැපේ ඉන්න පුලුවන්.
ටෙන්ට් එක මේ ශීට් එක උඩින් එලාගෙන tent peg / stakes වලින් ඇදලා පොලොවට සවිකරන එකෙන් ටෙන්ට් එක හුලඟට යන එක වලක්වගන්න පුලුවන්. ඊලගට තියෙන්නේ ටෙන්ට් එකේ සැකිල්ල (tent poles) සෙට් කරන්න. මේවා සවිකරන ආකාරය කූඩාරමේ හැටියට වෙනස් වෙනවා. ක්ලිප් කරන්න, ලූප් වලින් යවලා සවිකරන්න වගේ ක්‍රම වලට මේවා හදලා එවනවා. සැකිල්ලට main tent body එක සෙට් කලාම බොහෝදුරට වැඩ ඉවරයි. ඊලගට rain cover එක. මේකfly sheet කියලත් හඳුන්වනවා.
පායන දවසක් නම් fly sheet එක නැතුව උනත් ඉන්න පුලුවන්, උදේට පින්න බානඑක අවුලක් නැත්නම්.
හොඳට අහස දිහා බලන් ඉන්නත් පුලුවන්.
මේක හරියට සවිකරන එක වැදගත්. Fly sheet එක ටෙන්ට් එකේ body එකේ ගෑවෙන්නෙ නැතිවෙන්න ගහගන්න ඕන. ගෑවුනොත් වෙන්නේ තෙත අල්ලන එක. සමහර ශීට් වල ගයි ලයින් (gye line) එනවා. ඒවායින් ඇදලා පොලොවට සවිකරන්න ඕන. එහෙම කලාම නොතෙමී ඉන්න පුලුවන් ලොකු වෑස්සකදී උනත්.

කෑම්ප් එකක් යනකොට අමතර zipper head එකක් ඉඳිකටු , නූල් වගේ දේවල් තියෙන ටෙන්ට් රෙපෙයාර් කිට් එකක් අරන් යන එක වටිනවා. සමහර ටෙන්ට් එක්ක වෙනම repair kit එකත් එනවා. ටෙන්ට් පෝල් එකක් උනත් කැඩුනොත් හදන්න ඒකේ බඩු තියෙනවා.
පෙර සූදානමට පුලුවන් කඳවුරු ජීවිතය සැපවත් කරන්න.
මේ මතක් උන දේවල් ටිකක්. ඔයාලගේ අදහස් වලටත් පුලුවන් මේක හරවත් කරන්න. අපි අපේ දැනුම බෙදාදෙමු. ඒකට පුලුවන් camping කියන එකට අර්ථයක් දෙන්න. 😉

Backpack Buying Guide
**Please note that this guide is intended for Sri Lankans**

Trekking or Hiking a long trail without a proper backpack can be a stressful experience. I know this because I've had many backpacks of mine worn and torn during journeys. So it’s quite important to have a suitable backpack to carry all you stuff comfortably. Through this article I’m going to guide you on How to Buy a Reliable Backpack (in Sri Lanka). In Sri Lanka Backpacking isn’t quite popular. Whenever you go to a store and ask for a backpack they show those small school bags and single day backpacks. Most stores don’t have proper backpacks and even the stores which sell good quality hiking backpacks don’t offer much of a range to choose from. But if you are willing to sweat a little you might be able to find a good one that suits your preferences.

Before jumping in to buying a backpack you should get to know about the qualities that we should look for. If it’s a single day pack then most commonly available backpack will do but if you want an expedition pack or a multi-day pack then these are the crucial things to look for

1. Should have an Internal or External frame.
2. Should be accessible from top and bottom.
3. Should have padded shoulder straps with load lifters
4. Wider Hip Belt with load stabilizers.
5. Proper Lumbar Pad and Sternum Strap.

I prefer internal frame rather than external frame since internal frame backpacks are much more comfortable to carry in wilderness. They don’t shift like external frames tend to do. Most expedition/multi-day backpacks tend to be tall rather than wide.

So it’s much better if it could be accessible from both top and bottom. Most expedition/multi-day backpacks come with this option and some comes with waterproof sleeping bag compartment which allows access from bottom.

Now let’s talk about suspension system. This is the most important part of a hiking bag since this system enables you to carry weight much more efficiently and distribute weight in a manner that most of the weight (70%) goes through hip belt and to your hips.Below video will explain how you could adjust a backpack suspension system properly.

Scouting

After the Second Boer War, Baden-Powell enjoyed a celebrity status for his command at Mafeking. He set about writing a new book, Scouting for Boys, which was published in 1908. This was removed from his earlier, more martial works, but kept the idea of Scoutcraft as a core part of the Scouting program. Some critics accused Baden-Powell of trying to create a pseudo-military organisation, but he was quick to distance himself and Scouting from his earlier military experiences, and instead pointed out the importance of self-reliance, duty and thoughtfulness which his new program promoted.
In order to test that a new member had earned the title of Scout, Baden-Powell devised a number of tests for them to complete, including knot-tying, animal tracking, first aid, navigation, and fire-lighting. Other tests listed by Baden-Powell include having sixpence in a bank, and knowing about the Union Flag and its significance — these latter tests are generally not included in Scoutcraft in more recent times.[2] Similar books were published in America by Ernest Thompson Seton, a pioneer of the Scouting movement in the United States.
Scoutcraft is still a core part of many organisations' programs. The Scout Association of the United Kingdom lists the following benefits of Scoutcraft:[3]

Scoutcraft is a term used to cover a variety of woodcraft knowledge and skills required by people seeking to venture into wild country and sustain themselves independently. The term has been adopted by Scouting organizations to reflect skills and knowledge which are felt to be a core part of the various programs, alongside community and spirituality. Skills commonly included are camping, cooking, first aid, wilderness survival, orienteering and pioneering.

Mental preparedness

The mind and its processes are critical to survival. The will to live in a life and death situation often separates those that live and those that do not. Stories of heroic feats of survival by regular people with little or no training but a strong will to live are not uncommon. Among them is Juliane Koepcke. Situations can be stressful to the level that even trained experts may be mentally affected.
To the extent that stress results from testing human limits, the benefits of learning to function under stress and determining those limits may outweigh the downside of stress.[12] There are certain strategies and mental tools that can help people cope better in a survival situation, including focusing on manageable tasks, having a Plan B available and recognizing denial.[13]
