I created Merak as the charity wing of The Tree House International because I wanted to address the gap in autism awareness in Sri Lanka. Growing up in Sri Lanka, I struggled for many years without understanding why I experienced the world so differently, and it was only after leaving the country that I finally found the answer and received an autism diagnosis. That moment changed my life, because for the first time many of my struggles finally made sense. My dream is that at least one person in every household in Sri Lanka will understand what autism is, so that no child grows up feeling confused, isolated, or misunderstood. Through Merak, I wanted to bring together autism awareness, science, art, sustainability, and hard to reach communities in a way that people would never forget.

Every board tells a different story.
This sensory board celebrates 30 years since Sri Lanka’s historic 1996 Cricket World Cup victory. The colours subtly reflect the Sri Lankan national flag, symbolising national pride and unity, while the spinner inspired sensory element represents Sri Lanka’s iconic spin bowling legacy. The board is also signed by a member of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup winning team.
This is not just art.
This is national pride through sensory storytelling.

Autistic individuals experience the world in deeply unique ways, and sensory processing differences deserve understanding, respect, and support. Across many communities, sensory needs are still misunderstood, leaving families facing stigma and limited access to evidence-based support systems.
Through consultations, professional training, and parent education, SZBC Academy is committed to promoting greater understanding, inclusion, and meaningful support for autistic individuals and their families.
The Merak 2026 project and the Guinness World Record attempt for the world’s longest sensory board represent an important step toward increasing sensory awareness and creating more inclusive communities worldwide.
I am honored to support this initiative and its mission to promote acceptance and improved quality of life for the autistic community.
