The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition at ICBI 2025 gave PhD, DBA, and MPhil candidates a dynamic platform to present their research in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience, strengthening academic confidence, presentation skills, and research communication.

🥇 Ms. N. S. Sapumalee Senanayake (University of Colombo) – “Modernisation of the Sri Lankan Tea Plantation Sector from a Postcolonial Institutional Logics Perspective” – also won the People’s Choice Award
🥈 Mr. B. D. A. R. Jayamanna (University of Kelaniya) – “Impact of AI Reliance on Cognitive Capabilities”

Internship Open Day & Career Fair 2025: Strengthening Industry Partnerships and Enhancing Student Employability

The Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies (FCMS), University of Kelaniya, successfully held its first-ever Internship Open Day & Career Fair 2025 on 30th October 2025, bringing together more than 600 students and 116 industry representatives from 35 leading companies. Organized by the Internship and Career Development Centre, the event marked a significant milestone in strengthening industry partnerships and enhancing student employability.
The Open Day provided a dedicated platform for third-year students to secure compulsory internship placements and for final-year students to explore permanent employment opportunities through direct engagement with recruiters. Several companies conducted on-site discussions and talent identification activities, reinforcing the growing value of university–industry collaboration.
A special highlight of this inaugural event was the series of skill development workshops conducted on the same day, including CV and LinkedIn profile building, personal grooming, and Power BI training. These sessions drew exceptional participation and helped students prepare confidently for employer interactions.

The event also received strong corporate support, with Aitken Spence Maritime as Gold Sponsor, Softlogic Life Insurance and Lion Royal Tourism as Silver Sponsors, and JAT Holdings as Bronze Sponsor.

The successful launch of the Internship Open Day & Career Fair 2025 marks a new chapter in the faculty’s efforts to bridge academic learning with real-world professional experience, laying the foundation for continued annual career development initiatives at the University.
