All Ceylon Union of Teachers (ACUT) conducted a one day Professional Development seminar for the Principals,
Sectional Heads and some teachers of the private schools in the Jaffna district, on Saturday 17th June 2023 from 9.00 am.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Provincial Director of Education, Northern Province, Mr. T. John Quentes, for gracing this occasion as our special guest, inspite of his very busy schedule.

Important topics covered were

1. The Japanese experience in instilling self discipline in Japanese children and promotion of an Active Healthy Life Style for them - by Dr. Kijo Deura, Managing Director of Saku/Sri Lanka Friendship Association.

2. A Zoom Presentation of the 2023 new Educational Reforms - by Dr. Sunil J. Navaratne, Director General, National Institute of Education (NIE)

3. A Zoom Presentation to introduce the use of Artificial Intelligence(AI) tools in School Administration and to make life easier for teachers and children - by Professor Shanaka Wijesinghe, Virginia University, USA

4. Introduction to an Alcohol and Drug abuse prevention program to be conducted in schools - by Mr. of Alcohol and Drug information Center(ADIC)

5. A Sati Pasala program to be promoted in schools - by Mr. N. Kanthathasan, Deputy Director of Education and Coordinator of Sati Pasala programs in the Jaffna district.

Our grateful thanks to all the Resource persons who kindly consented to give their presentations at this seminar, some even at very short notice.

ACUT is very pleased that, though it was a heavily packed seminar, we were able to get through all the topics successfully.

The participants were happy and found the seminar to be very useful for them, which gives us an added feeling of satisfaction.

The seminar came to a happy end at around 3.30pm, with the vote of thanks by Rev. Daniel Vijayathasan Jeyaruban of St. John's college, Secretary of the ACUT Jaffna Branch.
