⏪ Recap: Pre-Departure Orientation 2026 ✈️

The United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) was pleased to host its annual Pre-Departure Orientation this month. A new group of The Fulbright Program awardees from the Master’s Degree Scholarship, Visiting Scholar Award, and Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship spent the morning at the US-SLFC office speaking with alumni and sharing how they plan to build key connections between Sri Lanka and the United States during their award period. 🔁

That afternoon, the group joined the EducationUSA Sri Lanka session to connect with others and learn more tips for a successful experience in the United States. 🇺🇸

In this session with EducationUSA Sri Lanka at the United States - Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission, Tayten will provide firsthand insights on navigating U.S. university life and unlocking strategic career development opportunities. 💼

She will also lead a practical resume workshop, sharing tailored strategies and practical advice to help students build a standout professional profile for career fairs and job applications. 📝

Through this initiative, Fulbright Sri Lanka aims to empower young leaders to champion the mission of Fulbright Sri Lanka: “Building bridges of understanding and peace between people of the United States and Sri Lanka through educational, cultural, and professional exchanges.” 💫

🌏 South and Central Asia Regional Finance Teams Retreat 💰

The United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission hosted the inaugural South and Central Asia Regional Finance Teams Retreat in Colombo this year.

Finance teams from The Fulbright Program offices in Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Nepal came together to exchange ideas, share best practices, and discuss key topics in financial management, compliance, digitalization, budgeting, and more. 💵

Colleagues from the Exchange Programs - U.S. Department of State joined virtually to share insights on funding, policy direction, and evolving financial systems. 📊

The retreat was a crucial next step in strengthening regional partnerships to support the Fulbright mission across South and Central Asia. US-SLFC thanks the United States-India Educational Foundation, the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan, and the United States Educational Foundation in Nepal for their insights and collaboration! 🌟

🚌 USBus Stop: University of Ruhuna 🌴

United States–Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) Program Officer Shanaka Premarathna joined the USBus-Mobile American Space stop at the University of Ruhuna. 🚦

Shanaka reviewed The Fulbright Program opportunities available to Sri Lankan students, academics, teachers, and professionals while offering tips on preparing strong applications. He also highlighted the resources and services offered through EducationUSA Sri Lanka, which helps Sri Lankans apply for higher education in the United States. 🇺🇸

United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) Executive Director Patrick McNamara, Ph.D., and Program Officer Shanaka Premarathna recently met with the Chairman and senior officials of the National Science Foundation (NSF). 🧪

During the meeting, Dr. McNamara and Shanaka shared information about The Fulbright Program opportunities for Sri Lankan scientists and NSF shared their work in advancing science education, technology innovation, and research impact across the island. 🔬

US-SLFC looks forward to continued engagement with NSF to explore collaborations that enhance scientific capacity, support innovation, share American research excellence, and provide opportunities to strategically partner with Sri Lankans. 🇺🇸
