Dr Rajiv Nirmalasingham, a University of Colombo alumnus and former captain of the University cricket team, is leading the Sri Lanka Masters Cricket Team at the IMC Over-40 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
Congratulations to Dr Rajiv Nirmalasingham, and our very best wishes to him and the team. We hope they bring the cup home!

The Lanka Masters Cricket Association is delighted to announce the Sri Lanka squad that will represent Lanka Masters at the prestigious IMC Over-40s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held in Georgetown, Guyana, from 17th October to 1st November 2026.

Leading the Sri Lankan contingent will be Rajiv Nirmalasingham, a powerful hitter renowned for his exceptional ability to score centuries and dominate bowling attacks. His vast experience and leadership qualities are expected to play a crucial role in guiding the team throughout the tournament.

Experienced all-rounder Suneth Sampath has been appointed as Vice Captain and is set to provide valuable support both on and off the field.

Emeritus Prof. Ramani Wijeysekara, former Head of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Colombo, served the university for nearly 40 years before retiring last year. She was respected by students and staff as an excellent teacher, researcher, and, above all, a kind and humble person. Her contributions extended beyond the university to SLAAS, G.C.E. A/L examination activities, and many national initiatives.
Her untimely demise is a great loss to the academic community and to the Faculty of Science.
May she attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana.
Her remains will lie at A. F. Raymond Funeral Parlour, Borella, from Tuesday, 25th August 2026 (7.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. ) to Wednesday, 26th August 2026 (9.00 a.m. to 03.00 p.m.)
The cremation will take place on Wednesday, 26th August 2026, at 5.00 p.m. at the Old Crematorium, Borella Cemetery
