The FGS MPhil/PhD Programme successfully conducted a workshop on ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก, providing participants with valuable insights into the transformative role of advanced technologies in contemporary research.
The workshop was facilitated by ๐๐ซ๐จ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ค๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฆ, Chair of the Department of Computers and Technology at St. Georgeโs University, Grenada. Drawing on his extensive expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Robotics, and Big Data Analytics, Professor Somasundaram shared practical knowledge on how these emerging technologies can be effectively integrated into research across diverse disciplines.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo (FGS, UOC) officially commenced the Master of Business Studies (MBS) 2026 Onsite Programme today with an inspiring inauguration ceremony held at FGS Boardroom 2.
The event featured insightful addresses from senior leadership, highlighting the immense value of this journey:
โจ Professor A.A. Azeez (Dean, FGS) welcomed the new cohort and shared words of inspiration on academic and professional growth.
โจ Professor R. Senathiraja (Coordinator, MBS Programme) provided a deep dive into the programme, emphasizing how this valuable opportunity equips students to excel in todayโs dynamic business landscape.
A special highlight of the day was the alumni session, where past students returned to share their firsthand experiences, insights, and the real-world impact the MBS programme has had on their careers.

The students of the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychosocial Support (PgDCP) 2025/26 (Weekend Programme), FGS, University of Colombo, successfully concluded an insightful 2-day field visit to Galle on the 6th and 7th of June 2026.
Bridging the gap between theory and practice, students visited the Nawajeewa Amadyapa Hada Sewaya (Drug Rehabilitation Center) in Rumassala and the Bonavista Eldersโ Home in Unawatuna. The day was filled with empathy, conducting group counseling discussions and handing over essential donations to support these communities.
After a productive day, the group enjoyed a wonderful night of relaxation and fellowship at the Araliya Beach Hotel.
The visit concluded on Day 2 with a tour of the Unawatuna Mental Hospital, where students had impactful discussions with medical professionals regarding mental health and observational techniques. A truly fulfilling educational journey!

The Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo successfully hosted a One-Day Workshop for the students of ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐ง ๐๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ฌ (๐๐๐) ๐๐๐๐/๐๐
programme on the ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ at ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ญ๐๐ฅ, ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐จ.
This workshop was particularly designed to help our students with the essential skills needed to conduct their Independent Research Study (IRS) successfully.
๐๐๐ฒ ๐ก๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐๐:
Refining research title, one to one guidance on developing a viable research proposal and overcoming common practical challenges in completing IRS.
Ethical AI Usage: Insightful discussions on university AI policy and how to avoid academic dishonesty. It further highlighted the importance of ethical use of AI tools without compromising academic and research integrity.
To ensure hands-on, personalized mentorship, students were divided into 8 interactive breakout groups. Dedicated lecturers were assigned to each group to help students by reviewing their research titles and resolve any academic challenges they faced.
It was a highly productive day filled with productive academic discussions and collaborative learning. We wish our MHR 2025/26 cohort the absolute best as they confidently embark on their research journeys!
