The Aitken Spence School of Management (ASSM) was swift in adopting online learning interventions with the limitations on conducting classroom sessions brought about by COVID-19. Transforming the "Challenge" into an ‘Opportunity’, ASSM initiated bite-sized ‘Power Learning Sessions’ delivered online, reaching Spensonians not only in Sri Lanka but across the globe. A special feature that was incorporated into the Power Learning Sessions was the enlightening and thought-provoking talks presented by well-known personalities in Sri Lanka and overseas. The distinguished speakers Javed Bongso, CrossFit Sri Lanka Andy Salem Andrews, Angelo De Silva, Dr. K L Chandratilleke, Rasini Bandara, Dr. Aseni Wicramatilake, Dr. Nitin Paranjape, Siji Varghese, Dr. Ashan Pathirana, Thilina Sasanka Chandrapala, Mevan Pieris, Dr. Sabith Salieh shared their knowledge, experience, and insights on a wide spectrum of subject matters, including leadership, stress management, ergonomics, emotional intelligence, positivity, customer agility and many more. These sessions enabled Spensonians not only to be equipped with new knowledge but also shape their perspectives in numerous spheres of life.

We wish to thank all the resource personnel who came onboard for imparting their wisdom and making the Power Learning Sessions at Aitken Spence a huge success!

The Training and Development unit under the Human Resource Division was established as an independent unit in 1993. With the tagline ‘Together We Grow’ the Corporate L&D division, together with the Subsidiary HR and training partners, have been responsible for the development of talent across all sectors of Aitken Spence for the past 3 decades.

Built on a strong foundation of on-the-job learning, the talent development strategy is based on 4 pillars; Individual Development, Organizational Development, Managerial Development and Professional Development. We have collaborated with both local and international giants in these development initiatives. The L&D division established Genuity, its external services arm and ventured into its first overseas assignment with a work study and training programme in Oman. The eLearning platform ‘TARTAN’ which was established in 2018 has now transformed into an integral component of the Groups’ learning culture.

The Group also achieved another milestone in its’ L&D journey when the Aitken Spence School of Management was established in 2014, a brainchild of Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake the Deputy Chairman & Managining Director of Aitken Spence PLC. The purpose of this venture was to supplement the development initiatives by streamlining the development life cycle of our employees.

The Management has decided to merge all Learning and Development initiatives under the brand ‘Aitken Spence School of Management’ and we look forward to continuing this journey with what we consider to be the Group’s greatest asset, Spensonians.
