The National Productivity Secretariat (NPS) successfully inaugurated the 1st Batch of the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification Programme on 13 July 2026 at the NPS Auditorium, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla. Under this programme, 54 selected NPS officers were awarded scholarships to pursue the internationally recognized SSMI Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification. The programme is conducted under a five-year strategic partnership between the National Productivity Secretariat and the Dr. Mikel J. Harry Six Sigma Management Institute Inc. (SSMI), USA, represented by Lean Six Sigma Asia LLC.
The inauguration commenced with welcome remarks by Ms. Pranidhi P. A. Bopagamage, Deputy Director, NPS, followed by special addresses by Mr. Dumidu Ranaweera, Global Director of SSMI and CEO of Lean Six Sigma Asia LLC, and Mr. W. M. D. Suranga Gunarathne, Director General, NPS. This programme is expertly coordinated by Mr. Tharinda Marasinghe.

Building Sri Lanka’s Productivity Future: NPS and SSMI, USA Announce Landmark National Lean Six Sigma Scholarship Programme

Colombo, Sri Lanka – 30 April, 2026

The National Productivity Secretariat (NPS) Sri Lanka entered into an exclusive partnership with the Dr Mikel J Harry Six Sigma Management Institute Asia (SSMI) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This collaboration marks the launch of a transformative Lean Six Sigma National Scholarship programme designed to cultivate advanced competencies in structured problem-solving among NPS staff and public sector employees in Sri Lanka.

Valued at approximately LKR 55 million (USD 168,000), this multi-year initiative represents the largest scholarship programme in SSMI’s history. It is a major milestone in Sri Lanka’s journey to revitalise its national productivity movement through world-class learning and operational excellence practices.

The scholarship programme is structured to systematically enhance the skills of productivity officers serving the public sector, corporate sector, schools, and vocational institutions across the island. Furthermore, it paves the way for public sector employees to access SSMI’s internationally recognised certifications at exclusive concessionary rates.

Over the next five years, 360 Lean Six Sigma scholarships will be awarded across the Yellow Belt, Green Belt, and Black Belt levels. These scholarships will equip productivity leaders with globally benchmarked tools, methodologies, and expert coaching to drive, facilitate, and sustain high-impact improvement initiatives nationwide.

This is in our continued efforts to promote the goodness of Lean Six Sigma in the world - a commitment we made to our founder Dr Mikel J Harry. We would like to sincerely thank Hon.
