Dear Students
“Today I want to show how the sitar comes close to the human voice—it can bend and shape notes almost like singing.
I’ve taken a melody from Madhumati, (1958) originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar and composed by Salil Chowdhury, and added a short jazzy introduction with other musicians.
The idea is simple: don’t just play a song—think beyond it. Explore it, reshape it, and make it your own. That’s where creativity begins.”

Dear students
I am playing a song of the two time Grammy award winner A.R. Rahaman’s beautiful song “Jiya Jale” in the film “Dil Se“ on the sitar.
A song and a raga are two different things when you play on the sitar. I hope you can Identify the difference when you hear this.
