🌩️🌧️ Acid rain is harmful .. right..☠️
But did you know that the rain comes down to the purest heart of mother nature; Amazon rain forest is acidic too..!!😱

Natural rain water, where there is no gas pollution is acidic. The reason is the dissolution of CO2 gas in rain water to form dibasic weak acid carbonic acid (H2CO3). This can decrease the pH value of natural rain water upto 5.6.

Is the acidity of natural rain water harmful?
Don't worry.., CO2 exists in our atmosphere for millions of years. So the life on earth is adapted to this slight acidity of rain water.

Then what is "acid rain"?
Lowering the pH value of rain water less than 5.6 due to dissolution of more acidic gases (SOx & NOx) than CO2 is known as acid rain. These gases are SO2, SO3 and NO, NO2.

Causes??
These gases can be naturally given off during volcanic eruptions and microbial activity. But the effect from natural causes is limited to a certain geographical area over limited time. So natural causes for acid rain are slightly considerable.

Main causes for the acid rain when it comes to environmental pollution are transportation and coal power stations.

Internal combustion engines produce energy by combusting liquid fuel in air under a very high pressure and high temperature. Atmospheric nitrogen which is inert under normal condition reacts
with oxygen under these conditions of high pressure and temperature mainly producing nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide gets oxidized further in the atmosphere giving nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

Compounds of sulphur includes as impurities in less volatile fuels such as diesel and furnace oil produced during the refining of crude oil. These compounds containing Sulphur turn into sulphur dioxide on combustion and enter the atmosphere.
Further, elemental sulphur and sulphur compounds (e.g. FeS) presents as impurities in coal get oxidized during the combustion of coal and enter the atmosphere as sulphur dioxide.

SO2 is further oxidized to SO3 with atmospheric O2, and NO is oxidized in the sameway to NO2.
Then those SO3 and NO2 dissolve in H2O water vapour giving, strong acids H2SO4 and HNO3 respectively.
Above acids are completely ionized in rain water to form much higher concentration of H3O+..
That's what we actually refer as acid rain..🌧️🌧️🌩️🌧️
