Our Young Makers Programme is a one-year, hands-on learning experience introducing children aged 6+ to robotics, coding, electronics, 3D printing, IoT, AI, and more.

Give young makers the opportunity to learn by doing, build real projects, and turn their ideas into working creations. This one-year, hands-on programme introduces children to robotics, coding, electronics, and intelligent systems through practical, project-based learning.

Throughout the programme, they will explore:
-Electronics, circuits, sensors & motors
-Coding, Scratch, Arduino & C++
-Building and programming robots
-CAD design & 3D printing
-IoT, Wi-Fi & smart systems
-Introduction to AI & Python
-Problem-solving, creativity & teamwork

What makes it different?
Every stage is focused on building, testing, documenting, presenting, and improving - so participants don't just learn concepts, they create something of their own.

🎉 8 years of DreamSpace Academy.

DreamSpace Academy started in 2018 in Batticaloa with a simple idea: create spaces where young people can learn, build, experiment and create solutions for their communities.

Eight years later, that idea has grown into a journey that has reached 14,269+ individuals across 7+ districts.

We have worked with 50+ schools, trained 2,000+ students in electronics, robotics, AI and digital skills, and supported 300+ teachers. Through our Empowerment Inside School programme, we are now working with 18+ schools across Batticaloa, Kantale and Hatton.

Beyond education, we have supported 26 changemakers, launched 20+ ventures, developed 14+ grassroots innovations and research projects, and built 9+ interdisciplinary labs. Along the way, our community has received 35+ awards and recognitions and engaged with 10 Global Goals.

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

The real journey is in the students who discovered what they could build, teachers who became makers, young people who turned ideas into ventures, communities that opened their doors to innovation, and everyone who contributed their time, knowledge and energy.

Eight years of growing together.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the DreamSpace journey over these eight years. We are grateful for every contribution, every idea, every lesson and every moment that has helped shape what DreamSpace is today.

At DreamSpace Academy, we believe innovation does not have to mean leaving culture behind.

In Batticaloa, creativity is deeply connected to our music, stories, traditions, languages, crafts, and local art. We work to create spaces where these forms of expression can grow alongside technology, new ideas, and opportunities.
Over the years, we have brought together young creators, artists, musicians, storytellers, filmmakers, makers, and entrepreneurs - giving them opportunities to explore their creativity, access new tools, learn new skills, and connect with others.

We also believe that traditional culture and modern innovation can exist together. Local knowledge, languages, art forms, and stories can inspire new forms of creativity while continuing to connect communities with their identity.

Beyond creative expression, we aim to connect creativity with opportunity-helping local creators develop skills, build networks, and explore pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

For us, empowering local art and culture means creating the space, confidence, tools, and opportunities for people to create, share, preserve, and build from their creativity. 🌱

Through our Empowerment Inside Schools Programme, we're working to close the digital gap in Batticaloa District - home to 359 government schools, of which 110–120 still lack adequate ICT facilities.

From hands-on ICT training to leadership and innovation clubs, we're not just teaching computers, we're building confidence, curiosity, and changemakers.

The impact?
Nearly 50% of participating students showed measurable improvement in their ICT performance after just 9 months.

Talent exists everywhere in Batticaloa. Our job is to make sure opportunity does too.

A Camera Aimed at What’s Working 🎥

For years, the story out of Sri Lanka’s East has been the same one: war, loss, recovery. True, but incomplete. VisAct Media a media venture built inside DreamSpace Academy , exists to tell the other half : not what broke, but what someone rebuilt.

The idea behind it 💡
Every community carries people quietly solving their own problems - with no funding, no spotlight, and no one watching. VisAct’s whole method is to find that person or that community, and put a camera on what they built instead of what they lost. Not charity footage. Not rescue narratives. Proof that change is already happening, made by the people living it.

Constructive doesn’t mean soft !
Telling a hopeful story isn’t the same as telling an easy one.
VisAct doesn’t look away from land disputes, discrimination, or communities the rest of the country has stopped paying attention to. The difference isn’t which stories get told - it’s how. Every story ends with people speaking and acting for themselves, not people being spoken for.
