Climate Finance for Banking Professionals – Opening Ceremony Highlights
On May 18th, 2026, we successfully launched the five-day intensive training program on Climate Finance for Banking Professionals, organized for Nepali banking professionals in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The program focuses on ESS/GESI integration, Gender Action Plans, SEAH safeguards, and risk screening tools – equipping bankers with practical skills to mainstream climate and social safeguards in financial decision-making.
🎤 The opening ceremony featured welcome remarks in the following order:
1. Dr. Sampath Wahala – Senior Lecturer, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (Editor/IEPSL)
2. Mr. Kapila Mahesh Rajapaksha – Director General, Central Environmental Authority, Sri Lanka
3. Prof. Narada Fernando – Chairman, People’s Bank, Sri Lanka
4. Dr. Binod Atreya – Managing Director, Banking Finance and Insurance Institute of Nepal (BFIN)
5. Mr. Vijay Kumar Raut – Deputy Chief of Mission / Counselor, Embassy of Nepal in Sri Lanka
A special milestone was the signing of an MoU between BFIN (Nepal) and IEPSL (Sri Lanka) – strengthening cross-border collaboration on sustainable finance capacity building.
