Mathematical Society

Holding 3 competitions to select students who have excelled in their mathematical skills.

🍀Competition 1
Title: 😊The human calculator
Objective:
To improve basic calculation skills and enhance the accuracy and speed in which they simplify.
Target group: Grades 6-11
Method of implementation:
Students will be given a question paper with sums to assess their simplification skills. A 30 minute time period will be allocated and the papers will be given class wise in which a winner will be selected from each grade.

🍀Competition 2
Title: 😊The Einstein
Objective:
To measure the I.Q. level of students and to help them improve their strategic thinking and intelligence.
Target group: Grades 6-11

Method of implementation:
Students will be given a question paper with sums that put their level of I.Q. to the test. They will be given a 30 minute time period and the competition will be held class wise which will bring out a winner from each grade.

🍀Competition 3
Title: 😊The Geometrician
Objective:
To increase the interest of students in geometry, to sharpen their knowledge in the theories of geometry and familiarize its applications.
Target group: Grades 6-11
Method of implementation:
The geometrical knowledge of students will be tested through a question paper with sums that test their knowledge in geometry. A 30 minute time period will be given and a winner will be selected from each grade.

The Maths Camp conducted by the Mathematical Society of S.Thomas’ College Bandarawela for the grade 9 students was an exciting, immersive experience designed to spark curiosity and build strong foundations in mathematics.The camp brought together students from all the three mediums for hands-on learning through games, challenges, and interactive workshops.By the end of the camp, students had not only deepened their math skills but had also developed friendships, a love for the subject, and greater confidence in tackling mathematical problems.

The Grade 12 Maths students who are attached to the Mathematical Society of S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela conducted a support seminar for students who would be facing the O/Level General Examination this year on the 03/06/2024.

The question paper was completely prepared by the Grade 12 students of the College which is of high quality.

The Grade 12 students also acted as invigilators during the examination while also distributing of question papers, issuing papers, observing the children writing the exam in the hall and all the things and all other matters related to the exam.

Afterwards the question paper discussion was also done by the Grade 12 students.

The Mathematical Society of S.Thomas' College,Bandarawela has given their helping hands to Gawarawela Maha Vidyalaya as the 7th distribution of Suchaga Nanopakara project by donating about 300 books for the Gawarawela Maha Vidyalaya library.
Thank you for all the donors who helped and spent their valuable time to make this project succesful.
