The University Business Linkage Cell (UBLC) of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka successfully conducted an Intellectual Property Rights Awareness Programme in collaboration with the National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO) on 28 January 2026 at the Staff Development Center of SUSL.
The programme was conducted by expert resource persons from NIPO, including Mr. G.A.M.N.T.B. Atapattu, Mr. K.G.J.I. Bandara, Ms. Buddhika Mudalige, Ms. Nadeeka Karunarathne, and Ms. Chinthana Ravimini, and covered key aspects of intellectual property protection, patents, trademarks, prior art searching, and patent drafting, providing valuable insights to the participants.

📢 Awareness Session on Intellectual Property Management & Innovation Commercialization
UBLC successfully conducted an Awareness Session on Intellectual Property (IP) Management and Innovation Commercialization for the first-year undergraduates of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences on 11th November 2025.
The session aimed to enhance students’ understanding of how innovative ideas can be protected, patented, and transformed into marketable outcomes through proper IP management and commercialization strategies.

📍 Meeting Highlight
A productive discussion was held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, between Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and BEAM Hela Osu to initiate the preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a promising research collaboration.
This meeting, organized with the involvement of the University Business Linkage Cell (UBLC) and the Faculty of Medicine, focused on exploring a joint research initiative aimed at advancing impactful innovation in the healthcare sector.

🌿 Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration 🌿

We successfully visited Cap Organic Pvt Ltd on 17th July 2025 at their factory premises in Thanamalvila to review the ongoing progress of the Soursop Wine production, proudly licensed by Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. This visit marks another important step in strengthening university-industry collaboration and supporting the commercialization of innovative products.

Join us as we celebrate another milestone for Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka!
UBLC is proud to announce the official signing of our 9th Exclusive Licensing Agreement with FADNA Tea (Pvt) Ltd, marking a significant step in the commercialization of university-led innovations. This partnership will bring to market a specially formulated herbal tea for kidney stone prevention, developed by Dr. Namal Perera and his research team from the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
The signing ceremony was held in 13 th February 2025 at the Vice Chancellor's Office, with Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunil M. Shantha signing on behalf of the university. The agreement was witnessed by Director-UBLC, Prof. Indunil Dayaratne, and Project Coordinator of the AHEAD Grant RIC No: 18, Prof. R.M. Kapila T. Rathnayaka. Representing FADNA Tea (Pvt) Ltd, Managing Director, Mr. Chamendra Somathunga, Chief Product Officer, Dr. D.B.T. Wijerathna, and Assistant General Manager - Research and Product Development, Dr. G.P.L. Supulchandra signed the agreement, marking the beginning of an exciting collaboration.
