WATER RESTORED. HOPE RENEWED. COMMUNITY RESILIENT.
Successful Completion & Handover of the Adawattha Estate Water Project
The Adawattha Estate Water Upgrading Project has been successfully renovated and upgraded, restoring a vital source of water for the community following the devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah.
For more than nine months, the people of Adawattha Estate faced severe challenges due to the unavailability of water for daily consumption, schoolchildren’s needs, household activities, and livelihoods.
From Destruction to Recovery
The water supply scheme was completely destroyed by Cyclone Ditwah, leaving families without reliable access to this essential resource.
Through the “Design & Implementation of Employment-Intensive Recovery in Flood & Landslide-Affected Badulla & Nuwara Eliya Districts” project, this urgent community need was transformed into a ground reality within just three months through dedicated teamwork, community participation and technical collaboration.
The upgraded water scheme was officially handed over to the Adawattha Estate community on 09 September 2026.
A Collective Effort for a Resilient Future
Funded by:
International Labour Organization (ILO) & Government of Japan
CSO Implementing Partner:
Uva Shakthi Foundation USF
Technical Facilitation:
PHDT – Plantation Human Development Trust
This achievement demonstrates how employment-intensive recovery, community engagement and strong partnerships can turn post-disaster challenges into sustainable solutions.
Water Restored. Dignity Restored. Lives Moving Forward
A renewed water supply means more than infrastructures it means healthier families, supported schoolchildren, stronger livelihoods and renewed hope for the Adawattha community.
Together, We Rebuild. Together, We Recover. Together, We Build Resilient Communities.
