Quick and simple guide to remembering ship light combinations as per the IRPCS or COLREGS.

We present a simplified way of remembering the various lights that are shown by ships, boats and yachts to indicate to other vessels information about heading and vessel type.

A single red or green light will be the sidelight - and in the simplest form this means that the vessel is underway and gives an indication of which side of the vessel you are looking at.
Additional lights give more information as the vessel's type and purpose.
Please watch our other videos to get more information and of course you are more than welcome to come and join one of our training courses. We also have online courses that enable you to gain more marine knowledge.
