Meet the Founder

“Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.” Bob Talber.

Ms Emily Remy boast eleven years experience in the teaching service. During those eleven years she has exerted her energies in moulding the minds and touching the lives of children from grades 4 - 6, educating them ‘not for school but for life’.

She holds an Associate Degree in Primary Teacher Education (SALLC) and UWI certificate in teaching which she attained after the successful completion of the two years teacher training programme from 2005 – 2007 at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Division of Teacher Education and Education Administration. In the view of continued (personal and professional) growth and development thus enabling her to be a step closer to the realization of her dream; she is currently pursuing the Bachelor of Education, in Early Childhood Development Studies as part of a programme offered by the University of the West Indies, Open Campus.

She is a certified level one cycling (2012) and athletics (2013) coach. In the same fashion she has successfully completed several football/ soccer coaching courses in the year 2010- 2012 under the auspices of FIFA and the Saint Lucia Football Association. In the year 2011, she had the privilege of participating in the AFC- CONCACAF Women’s Football Workshop, “The Asian Approach” held in Trinidad. Ms Remy has continued to undertake training in the various sporting disciplines namely cricket, volleyball and netball but more importantly in the area of child protection and safety in sports.

It should be noted that her interest in coaching was sparked in 2005 when she was approached by a local coach in her community to assist in the training of his youth soccer team. Ever since then, she has volunteered to coach at different schools and local clubs where she has gained much valued skills, knowledge and expertise. Ms Remy has also served in the capacity of assistant coach for the Saint Lucia U21 National Female Football team in 2011.

Currently she coaches her school’s athletics, cricket, football, rugby, volleyball and netball teams. In the past she has organized various after school programmes in the aforementioned sporting disciplines.

Ms Remy’s coaching/teaching philosophy can be summed up in three words, ‘the individual first!’ It is her belief that it is the moral and professional responsibility of the coach to promote the holistic development of the athlete. She often states that “coaches are in the business of moulding lives hence they must be equipped with the right tools… pedagogy is important but more so is humanistic qualities as this cannot be taught.”

Ms Remy is well-known for her involvement in many community outreach projects and as of such serves on many committees inclusive of the Marchand Football Council which is the governing body for football in the Community, Pavee United Sports Club, a newly formed club in the community of Pavee and the Marchand Grounds Facilities Management Committee.

She has an unwavering love for sports and theatre arts; however as a child she was not permitted to participate in either. Her parents were of the opinion that anything other than academics was a detractor and would adversely affect her academic growth. Hence, Ms Remy began playing competitive sports at the age of nineteen. She is a former member of Jet Setters Volleyball club and Central Castries Female cricket team. Playing in the position of Left back, she has contributed to three of the five consecutive championship titles secured by the Marchand Female Football team at the annual Saint Lucia National Female Football Tournament. She is also a national female rugby player and continues to play recreational sports namely beach volleyball and football.

Ms Remy has vowed to exert all her God given coaching and teaching talents to further the cause of the Girls’ Rule Sports Academy.

Meet the Floor Representative

Ms Nathacha Nervais hails from the community of Vigier- Vieux Fort but has been residing in the community of Marchand for past ten years. She is a proud graduate of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College: Division of Teacher Education and Educational Admission, a mother of two beautiful daughters and a certified teacher at the Marchand Combined School.

Ms Nervais has devoted over a decade of her life to the education service. As an experienced teacher, she has been given the mandate to help build the foundation of children’s learning at her school and therefore have taught grades K- 3 respectively.

Ms Nervais is team player: hardworking, cooperative, genuine and kind-hearted. She loves children and often expresses her belief that ‘every child is a gift from God, who needs love and support from the influential people in their lives.’ She enjoys sports and loves to sing; skilfully she marries the two by creating various jungles, chants and songs which can often be heard at the School’s Inter-House and District Sports Meets.

It is her hope to continue to be a positive role model to the girls that she mentors through the academy.
