Today marks the launch of Reading Month at the Dunnottar School. The Literacy Team has set the stage with a school assembly where the celebration will commence.

This month, the students will participate in a host of activities including; “Read to me Daddy” and “Reading Buddy.”

The culminating activity will be a “Character Day,” where students will dress up as their favourite story book character.📚📚📖📖📚📚

The Special Education Unit fervently encourages widespread participation in the mismatched socks movement on World Down Syndrome Day, on March 21st. Whether at school, work, or within the community, proudly sport your most vibrant and mismatched socks to express solidarity and support. Beyond making a fashion statement, wearing mismatched socks conveys a resounding message of acceptance and unity. Together, let's commemorate diversity, champion inclusion, and ensure that World Down Syndrome Day leaves an indelible mark on our collective consciousness.

World Down Syndrome Day, an internationally recognized observance on March 21st, was established by the United Nations to elevate public consciousness surrounding Down syndrome and advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of individuals with the condition. This year's thematic focus, "End the Stereotypes," underscores the imperative of dispelling misconceptions and cultivating a more nuanced understanding of Down syndrome.

The once grey wall next to the court is now bursting with vibrant colourful artwork, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Innovative Business Solutions ( IBS) & Harris Paints.

The newly painted mural has made this area more inviting to staff and students. It has also helped to express a greater sense of school identity, inspire creativity and encourage imagination.

Members of staff and students were given an opportunity to place their 'mark' on the mural; their handprints ensured their input in the creation of this work of art.

On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 2:00 pm, the memorial ceremony for Mr. Walter Sookwa will be conducted at the Maranatha SDA Church on L’Anse Road. We would like to take this opportunity to send our most sincere sympathies to his family, friends, Dunnottar School - Saint Lucia and the entire sports community in Saint Lucia and beyond.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Walter Sookwa, recently retired teacher at Dunnottar School.

Mr. Sookwa served as a teacher at Dunnottar School from September 1997 to July 2022. He was assigned to the vocational centre, where he worked for almost twenty five years.

Mr Sookwa wore many hats at the school and in the special education needs community. He was the agriculture teacher at the vocational centre, the sports teacher for the school and sports co-oordinator for all the special schools on island. He was most fondly known as the bus driver for the school.

The funeral service for Mr. Walter Sookwa will be held on Wednesday April 5, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at the Maranatha SDA Church, L' Anse Road.

Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Walter Sookwa.
