Summer provides an important opportunity for academic libraries to undertake specialized projects that support research, preservation, and access to knowledge.

At the Derek Walcott Library, staff are currently engaged in a project to enhance the bibliographic records of materials housed within Sir Derek Walcott’s personal collection.

As part of this work, books containing handwritten letters addressed to the Nobel Laureate, personal annotations, inscriptions, and sketches by Walcott are being identified, digitized, and linked to their respective catalogue records. These enhancements will provide researchers and library users with greater insight into the collection while helping to preserve these unique historical materials.

Projects such as these are an important part of ensuring that special collections remain discoverable, accessible, and relevant for future generations.

📚As we continue celebrating Reading Month following an inspiring National Library Week, the Derek Walcott Library was delighted to host Saint Lucian author McDonald Dixon today for readings from his compelling fiction work, A Scream in the Shadows.

Set in Saint Lucia, this gripping Caribbean tale of tragedy captivated attendees and reminded us of the power of storytelling rooted in our own people, places, and experiences 🇱🇨📖

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this literary event. Your presence continues to affirm the importance of reading, local authors, and library spaces that bring communities together.

📚Copies of ‘A Scream in the Shadows’ are also available for borrowing from our library’s collection.

A must read.
