On December 6, 2024, we proudly handed over the newly revitalized library at the Anse- la- Raye Primary School! This project, led by the Hunter J. François Library and supported by incredible partners, highlights the transformative power of collaboration and the vital role of literacy and libraries in education.

Special thanks to the Ministry of Education, the Parliamentary Representative for Anse La Raye / Canaries, Principal and Teachers of the ALRPS, the Board, Principal, Management and Staff of the SALCC, US Peace Corps, our kind donors, and everyone who made this dream a reality.

Together, we’ve created a dynamic learning space for the children in the community of Anse La Raye that will inspire curiosity, creativity, and academic excellence for years to come.

Here’s to a brighter future where every child has access to the resources they need to thrive in a safe, learning environment! 🌟

We hope you enjoy the highlights 📸

We are proud of Shyne Savory, an outstanding Sir Arthur Lewis Community College student and recipient of the 🇱🇨2024 Outstanding Youth in Literary Arts Award!

🎉Shyne’s achievements include winning our library’s 2024 WORRRD Up Poetry Slam with her piece 𝑫𝒊𝒂𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒂 ✍️ and contributing to writing and directing plays.

Reflecting on her journey, Shyne shared:
“I wasn’t expecting to win the award, but I’m extremely grateful to all of the library staff at Hunter J. François Library, SALCC for providing the platform for me to start writing and performing poetry, and for being the heart of the two libraries that I love so much - Derek Walcott Library and the Hunter J François Library. I did not anticipate that I could have gone this far in the space of just one year.”

Congratulations, Shyne! We’re thrilled to support your literary journey. 📖💫

After 33 years of dedicated service to the Hunter J. François Library, Mandy retires.

From 1991 to 2024, she played an invaluable role at our library, and in the later years took great care attending to our library’s digitization efforts aimed at preserving our institution’s rich history for future generations.

Thank you for your service!
