Beirut Arab University (BAU) (Arabic: جـامعة بيروت العربية) is a private international accredited university located in Beirut, Lebanon.
It was founded by the Lebanese El-Bir and Ihsan Society in 1960. The university is academically affiliated to Alexandria University in Egypt and officially accredited according to article (17) of the Lebanese Higher Education Law issued on 26 December 1961.

• History and profile
Beirut Arab University is located in the city of Beirut, and was originally subsidized by the government of the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. The university is academically affiliated to Alexandria University in Egypt, which provides BAU with highly qualified staff members, and awards its graduates their degrees. University objectives include the service of Lebanon and the Arab Nation, by offering Lebanese and Arab students a modern first rate education in various areas of academic study.

• Tuition Fees and Housing
The cost of each credit hour is determined by the university administration and fees vary depending on the faculty. Housing is not available on Beirut Campus; however, the city of Beirut offers various furnished and non furnished apartments at reasonable prices. Two residential buildings provide on site accommodation for staff. Each block is three-story high consisting of four one-bedroom apartments, plus one three-bedroom apartment. Both types of apartments come with fully furnished living and dining spaces, bedrooms, and services. The students' accommodation building consists of three levels with a total of 66 rooms, each having its private bathroom. The rooms are fully furnished with built-in closets, beds, and study desks. A new student accommodation building is also under construction, with a total area of 7,000 square meters to eventually house 133 students. Ten single rooms will have private toilets, while 60 single rooms and 21 triple rooms will share common services. The building will provide its residents with a reception area, lounges, study rooms, TV hall and gymnasium.
• English Language Requirements
All programs and examinations at BAU are set in English except in the Faculties of Arts and Law where the language of instruction varies depending on the nature of the course/s. Hence, applicants must provide evidence of their English language proficiency in one of the following ways:
All undergraduate applicants and transferring students are expected to pass BAU's English Language admission exam with a minimum score of 50%. However, applicants who have passed a TOEFL Exam with a minimum score of 500 or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 or have successfully completed the General Certificate of Education (GCE) program are exempted from this English Language admission exam. Similarly, transferring students who have completed a minimum of two years at an institution where the language of instruction is English are exempted from BAU's English Language admission exam. Some faculties may require postgraduate students to pass a TOEFL Exam with a minimum score of 500.
• Financial Aid and Scholarships
BAU provides direct financial support to students experiencing hardship in the form of tuition fees deductions. Annually BAU offers 20 scholarships. These scholarships are available to first year students who rank in the top five positions in the four branches of the Lebanese Secondary School Certificate. Outstanding BAU students who score an average grade of "Very Good" at the end of each academic year are exempted from paying the tuition fees of the subsequent year. Two Master Degree scholarships are annually offered to BAU students who receive the highest GPA and it is at a minimum of "Very Good" in the undergraduate level. The scholarship is in the form of a 50% reduction on the program tuition fees. Students with a SGPA of 3.8 or above are included on the President's Honor list and those with a SGPA of 3.5 or above are included on the Dean's Honor list. Top students who score an average of "Very Good" in the undergraduate level receive the Gamal Abdel Nasser award for academic distinction. Architectural Engineering students who score the highest grade on the graduation project receive the Mohammed Ghanem El Shamaa award. Top medical students receive the Fakhry Aalama award.
