Who's leading the change?

***The photo is currently being updated regarding some concerns that were raised**

Here's a breakdown of all the proposals submitted by last year's USFC.

It's important to keep in mind that:
Students for Change had 9 seats, Lead for Change (previously Students at Work) had 4 seats, and Campus Choice had 4 seats on the committee.

Calculating that accordingly:
-Students for Change: 18/9=2 proposals submitted per seat (12/9=1.34 proposals passed per seat)
-Lead the Change/Students at Work: 2/4= 0.5 proposals submitted per seat (0/4= 0 proposals passed per seat)
-Campus Choice: 4/4=1 proposal submitted per seat (3/4= 0.75 proposals passed per seat)

The information was compiled and organized by Outlook after going through the available meeting minutes. Details on our process and on the proposals are posted below.

USFC Proposals by Campaigns 2015 – 2016

Students for Change
1. Increase the pay rate of the Work Study Program (Meeting 8, April 22, 2016)
For several years, the pay rate for the work study program didn’t change. A proposal was submitted and approved and meetings negotiating the issue were held. The pay rate of simple lab work, office work, library work and dorm receptionist, increased 20% from 5000 L.L. to 6000 L.L. The pay rate for RA and TA increased from 6000 L.L. to 7000 L.L.

2. IOEC Gate (Meeting 5, March 8, 2016)
Students, engineering in particular, complained about having to take a long walk from the parking to enter AUB, which sometimes made them arrive late to their classes. A proposal for a new gate near the parking was submitted and approved. A new gate less than 1 minute from the parking, near the IOEC building was opened.

3. Medical School Statistics (Meeting 11, July 22, 2016)
For the past years, there was ambiguity regarding the standards by which students get admitted to the Medical School. A proposal demanding transparency was submitted. AUBFM promised to release in time all information regarding admission. Information for the Academic Year 2016-2017 was published directly.

4. Power Outlets in Jafet (Meeting 10, May 18, 2016)
The power outlets in the tables of Jafet’s first floor were not connected to a power supply. A proposal was submitted to fix the problem. The physical plant is working on the issue.

5. Wheelchair Ramps (Meeting 5, March 8, 2016)
In an effort to have a Disability Friendly Campus, a proposal was submitted to install ramps at all buildings on campus, particularly Nicely. The proposal was approved and the issue was delivered to the University Master Plan in order to consider the ramps in their prospective building renovations.

6. Final Grade Notification (Meeting 3, February 10, 2016)
Upon the request of students, a proposal to receive a notification when a grade is posted on AUBsis was submitted. The proposal was approved and students now receive email notifications about the grade release.

7. Stools for Architecture (Meeting 10, May 18, 2016)
The architecture students faced the problem of a non-sufficient number of stools in their classes. A proposal to furnish these rooms with new stools was submitted and approved. The needed budget was allocated and the procurement office is now in the process of purchasing the stools.

8. Printing Quota (Meeting 8, April 22, 2016)
Engineering students complained about not being able to use their assigned printing quota in any lab other than SRB. A proposal to fix this problem was submitted and approved. Students, of all faculties, should not be paying printing fees in their tuition fees anymore. Buying a printing quota should become optional for all students and will work in all computer labs.

9. First Aid and Crash Carts (Meeting 8, April 22, 2016)
A proposal to install first aid kits and crash carts in buildings and sites on campus was submitted. Several medical emergency cases happened on campus, one of which took more than 20 minutes to receive any sort of medical attention. The proposal was approved and the safety department is currently in the final stage of implementation.

10. Increase Study Spaces (Meeting 12, September 1, 2016)
A proposal was submitted and approved for follow-up and implemented on the opening of some Nicely classrooms till 12 am on weekdays and all south Nicely classrooms during the reading period 24/7. Another project is in progress with Jafet Library on the opening of a new quiet room. Students now have increased study spaces.

11. Posters Policy (Meeting 12, September 1, 2016)
A proposal was submitted to try and implement further the poster policy and amend it in a few ways concerning the timing of poster being hung up and actions taken against violating clubs and entities. The proposal was rejected because the Student Affairs Office already has a policy on the subject. The USFC agreed to implement the already present policy.

12. High Tech Production Lab (Meeting 13, September 22, 2016)
A proposal was submitted to the USFC concerning the installation of a high tech production lab at AUB in efforts to alleviate student needs and allow them easy access to printers, plotters and much needed resources at AUB.

13. FAFS removal of Business courses restriction (Meeting 11, July 22, 2016)
After a great deal of requests from FAFS students to remove restrictions from them on business exclusive courses (since they are also part of their curriculum), a proposal was submitted to end this issue and it was approved.

14. Prayer Room (Meeting 3, February 10, 2016)
A proposal was submitted by students for change for the installation of a designated room for prayer/meditation to be on campus. The proposal was rejected on the grounds that AUB should not have such a room as it defies the non-sectarian nature of the university (although all religions would have had equal privileges to the room in question).

15. Regulate Time Limit for Submission of Grades on AUBsis (Meeting 8, April 22, 2016)
A proposal to try and put a set deadline for professors to submit their final course grades on AUBsis. The proposal was rejected.

16. Change Cumulative GPA Calculation Method (Meeting 10, May 18, 2016)
Proposal to delete the grade of a course which is not required in the major for transfer students. The proposal was asked to review registrar policies and be submitted again for follow up.

17. Funding for Varsity Teams (Meeting 12, September 1, 2016)
An attempt to try and secure a fixed amount of money to be allocated for varsity teams when they are about to travel/organize a trip of the teams. The proposal was tabled.

18. Meeting with Deans Proposal (Meeting 12, September 1, 2016)
Trying to secure a fixed number of meeting between USFC members and the Deans of their respective faculties. Proposal was approved.

Lead the Change
1. Installation of the Architecture Lounge (Meeting 7, April 5, 2016)
The installation of a new Architecture Lounge that would be accessible for students 24/7. The proposed was not voted upon and was asked to be followed up by both a representative from Campus Choice and a representative from Lead the Change.

2. Couches for Architecture and Graphic Design (Meeting 10, May 18, 2016)
Proposal submitted to buy new couches for the architecture and graphic design departments. The proposal was rejected on the grounds that such an issue should go through the respective departments and SRC before coming to the USFC.

Campus Choice
1. Study Space Proposal (Meeting 7, April 5, 2016)
A proposal was submitted to open Nicely and OSB Classrooms from 9 pm to 1 am. It was suggested that a follow-up should take place, yet nothing further was done until a Students for Change representative submitted a similar proposal later on. (Refer to point 10 under Students for Change).

2. Proposal for Meeting Minutes Procedures (Meeting 12, September 1, 2016)
A change in the way meeting minutes are approved, where they are sent to USFC members and approved within a 7-day period by a circular vote. The proposal was approved.

3. SRC Budget (Meeting 13, September 22, 2016)
Proposal where $2,000 from USFC funds would be allocated to the SRCs of each faculty automatically for their Gala dinners, instead of them having to ask. The SRC budget was also made dependent on the faculty size, ranging from $400 to $3000. The proposal was approved.

4. USFC Town Hall Meeting (Meeting 13, September 22, 2016)
A proposal to add obligatory 2 town hall meetings for the USFC with the students (rejected), and making two late/early unexcused departures from USFC meetings count as 1 absence (rejected).

5. Penrose Project (Meeting 11, July 22, 2016)
A proposal to delay the Penrose Project submitted by Campus Choice & Secular Club was brought up. The proposal was not further discussed and the Penrose Project went through.
