On October 17, 1955, Haigazian University was established in Beirut, Lebanon by the joint endeavors of the Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA) and the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE). This eastern Mediterranean institution is a liberal arts university that operates on the United States model of higher education using English as the language of ins

truction. It emphasizes a challenging curriculum, good teacher-student relations, and empowerment through the free search for truth. Haigazian is the home campus to students from 20 countries throughout the world. degrees as well as Teaching Diploma. The majors available are Business Administration (with an emphasis in HOM, HRM, MIS, ACC, ADC, FIN), Hospitality Management, Economics, Armenian Studies, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nutrition Sciences and Dietetics, Education (Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education) Political Science, Psychology, and Social Work. All students are assisted in their respective programs by a Faculty Advisor who works to enable them to make the best choices regarding their educational and vocational future. Assistance in the form of financial aid is available as well.

Haigazian University’s Computer Science Department proudly celebrates the outstanding participation of six graduates from the Class of 2026, who represented the University and Lebanon at the Seaside Startup Summit Armenia 2026, one of the region’s largest international startup and innovation festivals. Haigazian University Press and Hairenik Press have launched the Armenian Memory Book Series, a new initiative dedicated to preserving and bringing the rich tradition of Armenian memory books to new generations of readers.

The inaugural volume, My Native Village: Okhou by Parounag Topalian, introduces English-language readers to the story of a lost Armenian village in the Ottoman Empire and to the remarkable tradition through which survivors preserved the history, culture, and memory of communities destroyed by genocide and exile.

How is artificial intelligence transforming the future of cultural heritage and under-resourced languages?

Haigazian University was honored to welcome its distinguished alumnus, Dr. Khatchig Mouradian—Lecturer at Columbia University and Johns Hopkins University—for a thought-provoking public lecture on “Cultural Heritage and Under-Resourced Languages in the Age of AI.”

Drawing on compelling case studies from around the world, Mouradian highlighted how AI is opening new possibilities for preserving endangered languages, recovering lost cultural materials, and expanding access to historical archives—while also raising important ethical questions about bias, authenticity, and cultural representation.

The lecture concluded with a powerful reminder: while AI can transform how we engage with our shared heritage, decisions about meaning, authority, consent, and responsibility must always remain in human hands.
