I have taken the WSI course 3 times, 2 times as part of a college course. The WSI renews as long as you teach a class every two years. In 25 years, I have taught hundreds of classes to thousands of students.

Summit International Academy students with good swimming skills are invited to train for a mational school competition in January. Bring your suit, goggles and towel. You can come during PE, art or computer class in the mornings 1st through 4th periods.

Students are invited to create a picture or poster with the swimming safety rules and upload them by December 6. The five rules we covered are:

1) Always swim with an adult
2) In an emergency call for help first
3) Reach or throw but don't go
4) Always wear a lifejacket on a boat
5) Look before you leap

As a dad to 3 kids with a lifelong connection to water, I understand how important it is to empower our kids to understand water safety. Along with Michael Phelps Foundation, I am proud to partner with our friends Nick Jr. and PAW Patrol on the Paw Patrol Safety First! campaign, to share tips with parents and kids on how to be safe in and around water.

The Michael Phelps Foundation is raising awareness of the benefits of swimming for children everywhere. As a society, we need to seek alternatives to drugging children to control behaviors and use holistic methods to assist with learning and social skills.
