Le FFLF est heureux de vous présenter, en avant-première française, le troisième long métrage de la réalisatrice libanaise Sarah Francis. Dead Dog explore l’intimité d’un couple lors de ses retrouvailles, confronté à ce qu’il reste de leur relation, érodée par l’éloignement, les silences et le poids du temps, tout en interrogeant les effets de l’expatriation, une réalité profondément ancrée dans l’histoire contemporaine du Liban. Présenté en Première mondiale au Festival international du film de Rotterdam, Dead Dog signe une plongée sensible et nuancée dans le lien conjugal et ses possibles réconciliations.

✏️ Synopsis
Par une soirée pluvieuse, Aida rejoint la maison familiale vide, perchée dans les montagnes libanaises. Elle y retrouve Walid, son mari, de retour après des années passées à l’étranger, et qui ne s’attend pas à la voir. Durant quatre jours de cohabitation, le couple se confronte à son histoire, à ses silences et à la fragilité de son lien. Reste-t-il encore quelque chose à sauver ? Dead Dog dresse le portrait intime d’un mariage à la fois vivant et en décomposition, dans une exploration subtile des blessures et des possibles réconciliations.

In his feature debut, Belgian filmmaker Mathijs Poppe follows Jamal Hindawi, a Palestinian artist born and raised in Beirut’s Shatila refugee camp after the Nakba. Between theatre rehearsals and everyday life, Jamal embodies the character of Majbour, a man haunted by a magical jacket that always finds its way back. What begins as a search for a missing prop unfolds into a layered meditation on exile, memory, resilience, and the unyielding presence of Palestine.

A hybrid of documentary and metafiction, The Jacket is a poignant journey through personal history and collective struggle, where art and life continually reflect one another.

The Jacket by Mathijs Poppe is screening on September 16 at 8.00 PM at l’Institut français du Liban, in the presence of the filmmaker.

It's been a while since we wanted to announce that 3 of our produced or co-produced feature films are having their premieres at IDFA, TALLINN, and IFFR.

However, it feels utterly schizophrenic and surreal to do so...
Writing this post while spending hours on the phone figuring out who is still alive and who is not due to the ongoing Israeli bombing in Palestine and Lebanon.

.. But, when life goes back to normal, whatever that normal will be, and despite the monsters who want to kill us, occupy us and bury our stories, we will celebrate the below and hopefully more.

Yesterday, "The Jacket", which we co-produced at placeless films had its International Premiere at IDFA. More screenings to come.

5 days ago, on November 14, a feature fiction film we co-produced, "Empire of the Rabbits", had its World Premiere screening at the PÖFF | Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia.

Meanwhile, a feature fiction that we produced earlier, Valley of Exile is continuing its amazing festival run. The film has played at more than 30 festivals worldwide and continues to win awards.
TSHWEESH, a short film produced in 2017, will screen at Festival du court métrage de Clermont-Ferrand again in the Focus Liban section.

Lara worked particularly hard on all of these films over the past few years while Lebanon was going through one crisis after another. Bragging about success in the film world today feels miserable when lives around us are falling apart, when Israeli drones and F-35s are flying overhead all the time, and when there is not really a clear future in sight (again and again).

But we had to share this post in case the nuclear war starts and someone finds it a thousand years later.
