If you spend enough time in Lebanon, Lebanese Arabic starts sneaking into your vocabulary whether you planned it or not.
You’ll hear it at the dekkeneh, in a service, over coffee, while asking for directions, and definitely in conversations that were supposed to last five minutes but somehow turned into an hour.
Soon, you’re not translating everything in your head anymore. The words just come out naturally… and that’s when you know you’re starting to speak like people actually speak here.
Because Lebanese isn’t only something you study. It’s something you pick up from the streets, the people, the conversations, and everyday life.

The dice hit the board, someone insists they’re definitely winning, the coffee gets cold because the conversation got too good, and nobody is in a hurry to leave.

No big occasion. No special plan. Just a very Lebanese kind of afternoon.

You learn قهوة… then you come to Lebanon and suddenly everyone is asking if you want “ahweh.”

Same coffee. Same word. Very Lebanese pronunciation.

That’s the thing about Lebanese Arabic: what you learn on paper and what you hear over coffee with a Lebanese family can sound very different.

Once your ear gets used to these little changes, everyday conversations start making a lot more sense.
