The Official page of Lebanese American University's School of Architecture and Design.
The School of Architecture & Design at LAU continues on the path of establishing itself as a first-rate institution for education in the arts, design, and architecture in Lebanon and the region. After its consolidation as a school in 2009, it has emerged as a role model in terms of its educational standards and in fomenting a design culture that is creative, open, multi-disciplinary and proactive.
The School of Architecture & Design encompasses the programs in Fine Arts, Design Foundation, Architecture, Interior Design, and Graphic Design, under one school. These programs had a long history at LAU, with the program in Fine Arts dating back to 1957, Interior Design to 1982, Architecture to 1993 and Graphic Design to 1994. In Fall 2013, the School also launched the Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design, in collaboration with the international fashion designer Elie Saab. The School of Architecture & Design is structured into three main departments: Fine Arts & Foundation Studies, Architecture & Interior Design, and the Department of Design. The School offers Bachelor degrees in Fine Arts, Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, Graphic Design, and Fashion Design. We hope to expand our program offering in the near future to include other design specializations, as well as Masters' degrees in selected areas. The Bachelor of Architecture degree is officially recognized by the French Government, which allows our graduates to practice in France and the European Union. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) which accredits all architecture programs in the United States has recently approved the eligibility for candidacy of the Bachelor of Architecture. At the School of Architecture & Design, we don't believe that old-time reputation is a laurel bestowed upon anyone forever. Rather, the artistic field impels us to constantly challenge our long-held convictions, and to 'think outside of the box', as a key to success. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in part by our efforts to seek international accreditation, something that impacts positively on our educational system, and in other part by our self-motivation to seek new horizons, to constantly re-assess, re-evaluate, and redefine our educational system.

Selected among only five students from Lebanon this year, Richani’s journey reflects a strong foundation in architecture, leadership, and innovation. Her work focuses on computational and data-driven design, exploring how coding, algorithms, and advanced fabrication technologies are reshaping architectural thinking and practice.
During her time at LAU, Richani graduated with high distinction and received the President’s Award for the School of Architecture & Design. She also held leadership roles across student and community initiatives, combining academic excellence with civic engagement.
As she prepares to continue her studies at the Bartlett, Richani aims to further bridge digital intelligence and physical making within the evolving landscape of architecture.

Alumna Nisrine Mehdi Turns Regional Creative Success into Opportunity for LAU Design Students
From leading creative initiatives across the Middle East to mentoring the next generation of designers, LAU alumna Nisrine Mehdi (BA ’93) continues to shape the region’s cultural landscape through design, storytelling, and creative leadership.
As founder of Room-Five and co-founder of the Middle East Film & Comic Con, Mehdi has contributed to some of the region’s most influential cultural initiatives. Today, she is giving back by creating opportunities for emerging LAU designers.
Earlier this year, three LAU graphic design students were invited through a fully sponsored opportunity to participate in the Sikka Art & Design Festival 2026 in Dubai, gaining hands-on exposure to one of the region’s leading creative festivals.
Her journey reflects the power of mentorship, authenticity, and meaningful connections between education and industry.

Her journey evolved from design studios at LAU into a full-spectrum creative approach—writing, animating, voiceover, and storytelling—leading her to collaborate with global organizations on impactful advocacy work. Alongside her visual practice, she discovered her voice in music through the LAU choir, shaping a parallel path in performance and artistic expression.
Classes, exams, and academic activities will resume in a flexible hybrid mode as of April 14. To allow more time to complete course requirements, two additional instructional days have been added:
- Saturday, April 18 (Monday schedule)
- Saturday, April 25 (Thursday schedule)
Lecture-based classes will be held online on those two days.
