Beirut Chess Academy

Beirut Chess Academy BEIRUT CHESS ACADEMY (BCA) provides its members with the latest teaching methods and strategies needed to excel at this complex and fascinating game.

Faysal khairallah, founder and owner of Beirut Chess Academy, has been instrumental in the development of new teaching methods. He has founded the Academy, not only to provide its students with better playing techniques but also to offer both parents and children a nurturing environment in which to spend time together in the congenial atmosphere of the Academy enjoying the benefits of this fascina

ting game.

1- A nurturing environment for children and adults:

The Academy's site is an old house in a quiet street in Gemayze, with a 100 m² garden. This location will grant both children and adults a relaxing environment, allowing them to concentrate while playing chess, as well as enjoy the calm and agreeable surrounding both inside and outside the house.

2- Latest teaching technologies:

The Academy employs the latest teaching methods to insure the best learning experience:
(a) In the main teaching room, digital chess boards will be placed at each table. These boards are connected to the teacher's computer that registers the games in order to thoroughly analyze every move made by the players. (b) The games played by the students will be projected on a wide LED screen during their analysis. This way, all students will have a clearer vision of the game; they will have equal opportunities to participate in the analysis process, and engage in a better learning experience. (c) The LED screen will be used to project chess puzzles for the students to resolve, in order to improve their visualization skills, and develop their tactical and strategical skills.

3- The children's courses will be divided into 3 categories (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) depending on every student's level and age group. In the beginner’s group, the students will learn all the basic rules of chess, as well as the basic tactics. BCA offers beginners session for kids as well as adults. In the intermediate’s group, members of BCA will be exposed to deep chess tactics and strategies, such as endgame, sacrifices, openings and opening principles, gambits and checkmate patterns. In the advanced level, the members will go further in the analysis process. Using digital chess boards connected by infrared to the computer, all the players’ games will be registered onto the computer and projected on a wide LED screen, in order to review each position, thoroughly study every move and analyze different variations.

I find the following game of the world champion interesting, bcz he breaks the opening principles. His surprised opponent goes down without too much resistance.

Magnus Carlsen - Leinier Dominguez, Saint-Louis 2019

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. cxd5 Nxd5
Semi-Tarrasch Defense

5. e4 Nxc3 6. bxc3 c5 7. Rb1 Be7

8. h4 is a novelty

8...0-0 9. h5 h6 10. Qg4

Interesting to see that the world champion is breaking all the opening principles: He plays mainly with his pawns and heavy pieces and starts attacking very early in the game.
He probably believes that his strong center and kingside space advantage allows him to start a Direct attack on the opponents king.

10...f5 11. Qg3 Kh8 12. Nh3 cxd4 13. Nf4 Kh7 14. Bc4 Bg5 15. O-O Nc6 16. Ng6 Re8
