AUB and the University for Seniors mourn the passing of our dear Jirji Bachir.

Known for his unwavering and deep loyalty, Jirji held AUB close to his heart and remained devoted to its mission of learning, community, and service to the very end. He will be remembered for his steadfast support of the University for Seniors, where he was a pillar in developing its academic program and nurturing its community. Jirji took great pride in being part of both the UfS and AUB, and his presence brought a lot of enrichment, intellect and warmth to everyone around.

Our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Fatme, and his children, Zeina, Mazen, Bassel, and Elias.

His memory will remain cherished by all who knew him. May his soul rest in peace.

UPDATE on Spring 2026 term:
In light of the recent attacks on Lebanon, AUB has announced the transition of its academic activities to an online format.

At the University for Seniors, we believe that staying connected and engaged is especially important during challenging times. For this reason, the Spring 2026 term will be held fully online, with an adapted program that includes lectures, weekly virtual get-togethers, and wellness study groups open to all Spring term members i.e. not requiring sign-up.

📚 Term Dates: March 23 – June 12

As the UfS team continues to monitor and assess the situation, the Spring 2026 term registration will be POSTPONED until further notice.

Nevertheless, the UfS is keen to stay connected as we are firm believers in the power of connection and community engagement especially in such grave situations as we have seen it during COVID and during the 2024 war.

In accordance to Ministry of Education decisions, AUB has extended its closure to tomorrow and thus the University for Seniors will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday March 3.

Therefore, Registration for the Spring 2026 term will not be held tomorrow.

AUB and the UfS will continue to monitor the unfolding events and assess the situation day by day while we keep you informed of how we will move forward.
