ACTIVITY: Let’s all try something new. Instead of using negative words like ‘can’t’, ‘won’t’, and ‘don’t’in our vocabulary, let’s use ‘can’, ‘do’, and ‘will’. Write a list of all the things you think you can’t, don’t want to do, and won’t do. For example, “I can’t get an A on the test”, “I don’t want to clean my room”, and “I won’t go to bed early”. Then, change these phrases into positive ones! These sentences turn into: “I CAN get an A on the test”, “I WANT to clean my room”, and “I WILL go to bed early”. Now, doesn’t that sound so much better?!

Children take great pleasure in listening to stories. Hearing a story read helps the child focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. It also gives an important introduction to listening- a skill the child must master in order to learn to read.
With interesting sound effects, music, and a skillful narrator, Glory In a Story is a motivating and fun program for young children. Yusur Al Rashidi, with her delightful stories and the accompanying playful music and sounds, demonstrates the deep pleasure that books can provide to children of all ages, serving as a stepping stone to every other kind of reading experience.
Oral narrators tend to embellish their storytelling with silly voices and dramatic enhancements. They emphasize reading as a source of pleasure rather than a skill, and make children eager to learn how to read. Beyond their sheer enjoyment of audio stories, children also develop a sense of narrative structure and understanding of language.
