تطوير فهمنا العلمي لأنماط "الشخصية" في العالم العربي و تطوير "نموذج" عن أنماط الشخصية الذي ينطبق على العالم العربي.

Who are we? Developing a personality "theory" (model) that applies to the Arab world. As it stands now, most personality models in psychology are based on European and US-based research and people. For the first time, we will be developing a personality model derived from Arab countries (indigenous). After establishing the model, we will develop a personality test to measure it. How does it work? It is established that important personality traits in people have become encoded in their natural language. So, psychologists study the language people use to describe others in order to understand the personality model in a given language and culture (this is called the psycholexical approach). What can YOU do? Participate in our studies! These are first in a series of studies that investigates Arab personality through language. We hope you participate to help us further our scientific understanding of personality psychology across cultures! All information is always anonymous.

بين البيئة والوراثة: ما هي العوامل التي تلعب دورًا أكبر في تحديد شخصية الانسان؟

الوراثة تشير إلى كل من الجينات والعوامل الوراثية التي تؤثر على من نحن عليه ، من مظهرنا الخارجي الى شخصيّتنا.

أمّا البيئة ، فهي تشير إلى جميع العوامل البيئة الخارجيّة التي تؤّثر على من نحن عليه ، من تجاربنا في مرحلة الطّفولة المبكرة، الى الأساليب التي استُخدمت في تربيتنا ، وعلاقاتنا الاجتماعية، وثقافتنا المحيطة.

في الماضي ، كانت المناقشات حول المساهمات النسبيّة بين الوراثة و البيئة غالبًا ما تأخذ نهج واحد، امّا من يقول أن الوراثة تلعب دورًا أهمّ في تكوين شخصيّة الفرد أو من يُأيّد العكس . أمّا في يومنا هذا ، فان معظم الخبراء يوافقون على أن العوامل الوراثيّة و البيئيّة تلعب دورًا حاسمًا وتفاعليًا في تكوين شخصية الفرد طيلة حياته ، لكنهم لا يزالون في نقاش حول نسبة تأثير كلٍّ من الوراثة والبيئة على سلوك الشخص.

الحقيقة هي أنّه لا توجد طريقة بسيطة لتفكيك تأثير العوامل الوراثيّة من العوامل البيئيّة !

Our team is looking to recruit a Research Assistant to join our cross cultural researchers from Lebanon and the Netherlands in a project investigating personality traits in Arab countries. The ideal candidate should have completed a Master’s degree in Psychology or related discipline, have a strong command of English and Arabic, be savvy with computers and the internet, and have a basic understanding of statistics. The position is part-time (20 hours/week) with the flexibility of working from anywhere. Eligible candidates please email CV in PDF format to Pia Zeinoun on [email protected]
