NMPC Lebanon National Mobile Programing Contest for University Students

The Ministry of Telecommunications and the University of Balamand, in collaboration with mtc touch as gold sponsor, are organizing a contest in Mobile Applications development. The 3 partners are committed to organize an event whose mark, on the Lebanese software market, will last for a long time. This will be achieved by maintaining the highest level of collaboration and commitment to transparency, openness and professionalism.

Ma3bar closed the activities related to the Third National Mobile Programming Contest (NMPC-III) with a ceremony of awards distribution that was held at The Ministry of Telecommunications on the 29th of July 2015. The Ceremony started with a presentation by Ma3bar Coordinator, Fr. Antoine Melki, who spoke about the progress made since NMPC-I in 2012, and which is clear in the increase in the number projects, students, and universities participating in the contest, together with the rising quality of projects. Speakers in the ceremony were Dr. Carole Alsharabati representing the silver sponsor CME Offshore, Mr. Claude Bahsali, Chairman & CEO of the silver sponsor ITG, Prof. Fadi Geara, Dean of Engineering at the University of Saint Joseph USJ/ESIB who hosted the projects' presentation and the accompanying exhibition, Dr. Usamah Farukh representing the academic sponsor IEEE Lebanon Section, Dr. Pascal Bou Nassar representing AUF that joined NMPC-III as an academic sponsor. Mr. Peter Kaliaropoulos, touch vice chairman and General Manager, represented touch which is the platinum sponsor. The final word was for His Excellency Mr. Boutros Harb, Minister of Telecommunications. The speakers presented how the contribution to NMPC-III meets the mission of their corresponding organizations. One common point among the different speeches was the acknowledgement of the role Ma3bar is playing not only in promoting FLOSS but also in nurturing cooperation among universities and with the industry.

The awards were offered to the winners, Jospeh Azzam received the platinum award from touch, Elie Kerouz and Zahi Renno received the silver award from ITG, and Rami Faddoul received the silver award from CME Offshore. The ceremony was closed with a memorial photo.

It is worth noting that the platinum award offered by touch was 20,000 USD, each of the silver awards was 5,000 USD. There were 105 contestants coming from 14 universities and presented 56 projects.
