Welcome to the official page of Saint Mary's Orthodox College - SMOC. Later, a mixed school, which the area was most in need of, was established.

The historical background of our school has always been rich and deeply rooted in the community and the neighborhood that it serves. After the construction of the “Dormition of the Virgin Church” around 1890 in West Beirut, two elementary schools were established adjacent to it: one for boys and the other one for girls. The schools were renowned for the impeccable discipline they offered and for c

atering for the children’s physical and mental growth. In the early days of the Independence, the two schools were considered public schools, and hence, they were under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. Consequently and in order to accommodate for the continuous demand and growing need for education, the girls’ section was expanded. However, the boys’ school, which was located in the courtyard of the church, remained at the time under the custody of the Ministry of Education until 1979. In 1979, the boys’ school was demolished for the expansion of the church, and simultaneously, two floors were added to the girls’ school. Thus was born Saint Mary’s Orthodox College, the one we know today. Furthermore, the constant growth and rise in numbers of learners from 1193 learners to 1493 learners throughout the past decade mandated a renovation of the Ras Beirut Campus and Mar Elias Msaytbeh in order to move the Secondary Division. Renovating and equipping the new campus was concluded in 2018-2019, and the campus was ready to receive the Secondary learners and serve the new educational and academic approach. This surely increased the capacity of Saint Mary’s Orthodox College. One of the original objectives of the school was to give quality education that was in line with the world’s requirement. Emphasis was also on the co-existence of the intellectual, cultural, and social blending among different communities as a living example that was rarely seen in Lebanon. Since then, the administration changed, and the school system experienced perpetual developments, but the remaining constant is the will to fulfill an educational and social role within the community.

Knowledge, Teamwork and the SE spirit in full force!
The annual SE-THON brought Sophomore, Junior, and Senior SE learners together for a fast-paced challenge in Economics and Sociology.
After an intense elimination round, the top two teams went head-to-head in a final showdown filled with video-based questions, quick thinking, and sharp analysis. A big congratulations to all our participants for proving that SE is not just a subject, but a way of understanding the world.

Karim Mourad created "Offline" during the LAU Film & TV Camp as part of a project that challenged participants to produce a short film reflecting what makes them different. Through this film, he chose to highlight society's growing dependence on mobile phones and how constant digital connection often prevents people from appreciating the world around them. Offline encourages viewers to disconnect from their screens and take the time to experience the beauty of nature and the breathtaking landscapes Lebanon has to offer.
The film earned First Place, a well-deserved recognition of Karim's creativity, vision, and storytelling. We are incredibly proud of you, Karim, and wish you continued success in all your future endeavors.

The rhythm was high, the energy was contagious, and wellness took center stage!
As part of an exciting interdisciplinary collaboration between Biology, Physics, Sociology, and the Health Club, Junior learners took the lead in educating and empowering Grade 9 and Sophomore learners to embrace healthier lifestyle choices through nutrition case studies and interactive wellness challenges.
The excitement continued with a valuable guest talk by nutritionist Ms. Saja Masri, an action-packed Body Combat session led by Mr. Samir Badawi, and an energetic Zumba session facilitated by Ms. Mira Naja that got everyone moving to the beat!
A day filled with learning, movement, teamwork, and positive energy—proving that healthy living is not just a choice, but a lifestyle worth celebrating!

Learning came to life as our Sophomore learners explored the fascinating process of DNA replication through an immersive Virtual Reality experience. Using VR headsets, they journeyed inside the cell to witness the steps of DNA replication firsthand, transforming a complex biological process into an engaging and memorable learning adventure.
To reinforce their understanding, learners participated in interactive activities on the Active Board, applying their knowledge and testing their comprehension in a fun and collaborative way.
