Conflict and climate change are increasingly converging to intensify pressure on already fragile health systems across the Eastern Mediterranean Region. From attacks on healthcare to floods, disease outbreaks, and damaged infrastructure, these overlapping crises are disrupting essential services and limiting access to life-saving care, putting millions at increased risk.
In light of these challenges, join us for our upcoming virtual panel, โConflict-Induced Environmental Degradation: Impacts on Climate, Displacement and Health,โ hosted by the Cli-Health Program at the Global Health Institute, in collaboration with the IOM Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa. The discussion will bring together regional and international experts to explore how conflict-driven environmental degradation intersects with climate change to deepen fragility in health systems, intensify health impacts and contribute to protracted displacement, particularly in vulnerable and conflict-affected settings such as the MENA region.

๐ข New Publication Alert
A new qualitative study explores oncology healthcare professionalsโ perceptions of introducing home-based palliative care for patients with advanced cancer in Gaza. Conducted through interviews with multidisciplinary oncology staff, it highlights key benefits and implementation challenges in a conflict-affected, resource-limited setting.
This work also reflects the contribution of Haytham Abusenjar, a fellow in the CREEW fellowship program (Center for Research and Education in the Ecology of War), whose engagement supported his involvement across the full research process, from study, data collection to analysis and manuscript development. The study underscores the importance of strengthening research capacity in conflict settings and generating evidence to inform more humane and accessible cancer care pathways in fragile contexts such as Gaza.
