LAU signed a strategic MOU with Project Management Institute (PMI), facilitated by the PMI Lebanon Chapter, on May 13, 2026, at the LAU Beirut campus, reinforcing pathways between academic learning and professional practice.
The agreement was signed by AKSOB Dean Dima Jamali and PMI Managing Director for the Middle East and North Africa Hanny Alshazly, represented by Diana Al Chaar.
The partnership will expand student access to globally recognized project management resources, online training, certification pathways, and industry expertise, while supporting applied research, case development, student engagement, and stronger connections to the wider project management community.

LAU and Abu Dhabi University (ADU) have partnered to launch a regional research consortium tackling three of the Arab world's most pressing challenges addressing food safety, microplastic contamination in the Gulf, and nutritional during dialysis, through collaborative, applied scientific research.

LAU–ADU Partnership Launches Regional Research Push The consortium is set to collaborate on three initial research projects addressing food safety, microplastic contamination in the Gulf, and nutritional dialysis.

The stigma placed on mental health issues in Lebanon is such that after the massive Beirut port explosion in 2020, only 10% of people in high distress sought help even though it was freely available.

There is one factor that may break through that barrier, though.

In a quantitative study, LAU researchers noted that high self-esteem appears to make people more resilient. Even under the pressure of social stigma, those with positive self-images report less distress and are more likely to seek professional care when in distress.

Based on their findings, the researchers highlight programs designed to enhance self-esteem among children and teenagers. This could be as important as creating awareness in local communities and creating easily available support groups.

LAU has announced a landmark philanthropic commitment from Trustee and longtime supporter Ray Debbane to advance the LAU New York campus, expand scholarship opportunities, and strengthen the university's role as a bridge between Lebanon, the diaspora, and the world.

The commitment will support inaugural scholarships for deserving students, establish an enterprise hub to connect education with innovation and opportunity, and create an Endowed Distinguished Business Chair — all named after Mr. Debbane. With this commitment, the university has renamed the campus the LAU New York Debbane Campus.

The gift was celebrated at a ceremony on May 14, 2026, marking the renaming of the campus.

An LAU chemistry team has synthesized palladium chloride, a compound essential to one of photography's rarest processes, and used it to produce real prints.
