Where is home? A question Samaa has always asked herself. Born and raised in Lebanon to an Iraqi father, she grew up feeling she belongs nowhere.
In 8th grade, on the Lebanese Independence day, Samaa delivered a speech on belonging. She spoke about how home is not defined by paperwork, but by identity, values, and the way one is raised "It is not a paper that dictates where I belong it is who I am". And from that moment on, she committed herself to fighting for her right to nationality.
Years later at AUB, Samaa participated in the “Political Citizenship for Social Change” program by the Asfari Institute. To qualify, she wrote an essay on sectarianism in Lebanon and how it prevents the formation of a united national identity which impacts laws such as the nationality rights. Once qualified, Samaa shared her story and presented her theory of change, earning her the best storytelling award.

Let's wrap the year with one of our MEPI TLU stars!
"My internship at the United Nations System Staff College has been a rewarding
experience. I am honored to contribute to the meaningful mission of the UNSSC by working on impactful projects and collaborating with an inspiring team under the leadership and guidance of Ms. Simona Costanzo, Chief Academic Partnerships at UNSSC. This opportunity has allowed me to engage in tasks aligned with my passion for marketing, such as developing promotional materials for the Nelson Mandela Project for Social Change December Event held in Torino, Italy, while also building skills in new areas. I have gained exposure to a variety of training programs and courses on topics like 'Ethics and Integrity at the United Nations' and online course development tools.
Additionally, attending internal meetings and presentations by other UN departments has broadened my understanding of the key milestones, achievements, and objectives of the United Nations.
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity where I get to leverage my passion for creating a meaningful change."

Amjid Khurwat, one of our MEPI TLG students, took his passion for climate action to the Libyan Youth Climate Summit. Over three days, he facilitated workshops, shared insights on green projects, and connected with organizations to spread awareness about Roeya’s impactful climate initiatives.
To Amjid and his peers at Roeya, the devastating floods in Libya were a call to action, a call for change.
Through his work, Amjid encourages youth to take responsibility for our planet and hold themselves accountable, emphasizing how even small actions can create meaningful change. He’s proving that education and youth leadership is essential to tackling climate challenges and building a sustainable future.
