The past 6 years have been the most difficult since we opened 26 years ago. After facing and overcoming several setbacks, this last year has proven to be the most challenging. As result, we are facing closure. However, after hearing our news, our amazing community has rallied around us and created a fundraiser that will hopefully provide us with the financial stability we need to get through. If you’d like to know more, please check out the link in our bio.

Flower arranging may seem like a simple task, but it allows children to practice everyday skills such as pouring, cutting, measuring, estimating, and arranging. It also helps them to feel a sense of pride when they see something they chose, prepared, and presented to the classroom is positively contributing to their collective environment.

Every month we discover a new artist, learning all about their life and work. Picasso was our pick for January and we ended the month by re-creating our very own masks inspired by his art!

This is such a perfect example of Montessori in action! When you allow the child to use the materials freely, it opens doors to creativity, and the result is the child defining exactly what they need to learn!
In this case, one of our children discovered that the knobless cylinders fit perfectly into the holes made for the knobbed cylinders - combining two materials into one learning experience that taught him both a sense of dimension and visual discrimination!

‘Trusting the Child’, in Montessori terms, is the belief that children have an inner drive to learn and let their natural instincts guide them to what they need. Recently, we observed a prime example of this. One of our children, completely unprompted, started placing suction tabs on the glass door and pulling them off. By doing so, he was naturally discovering the scientific concepts of suction and pressure when placing the tab and then resistance when removing it. In turn, this helps him develop his fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. What was even more fascinating, is that his classmates joined him in the activity, replicating his movements.
As a Montessori preschool, we not only allow for these activities to happen, but encourage them because we trust that our children are learning something in the process, something they instinctively know they are ready to learn.
This is the magic of Montessori and why what could look like meaningless play is actually a perfect learning opportunity!

We’ve been celebrating Lebanon all month long! We’ve made mana’esh, fattoush, and learned all about Lebanon’s famous places, people, music, and culture. Yesterday we capped off our celebration by planting our own cedar saplings, getting dressed up to learn about Lebanese heritage and made our own labneh Lebanese flags! Happy Independence Day!🇱🇧
