Unlocking the Power of A.I. for Strengthened Security and Defense

The Lebanese General Directorate of General Security, in cooperation with the American University of Science and Technology (AUST), held a graduation ceremony to honor officers who completed an intensive training program on artificial intelligence and its security-related and scientific applications. The program was organized through AUST’s Office of International Development and Continuing Education.

More than 100 officers, divided into three successive cohorts, participated in the 12-hour program, which was delivered over two days at the AUST campus. Led by AUST faculty members with expertise in the field, the program combined theoretical knowledge with practical applications, providing participants with a broader understanding of emerging technologies and their potential role in modern security operations.

The graduation ceremony began with the Lebanese National Anthem and the General Security Anthem, followed by speeches delivered by Brigadier General Amer Al-Mays, representing the Director General of General Security, and Dr. Riad Sakr, representing AUST. The ceremony also featured a presentation highlighting five years of cooperation between AUST and General Security.

During the ceremony, Brigadier General Al-Mays and Dr. Sakr exchanged commemorative shields and presented certificates of completion to the participating officers. Awards of appreciation were also presented to the program’s instructors—Dr. Ali Abdallah, Dr. Michel Owayjan, Dr. Elie Nasr, and Hiba Othman—in recognition of their valuable contributions.

The ceremony marked the successful completion of the program and emphasized the value of continued cooperation between the academic and security sectors.

This initiative reflects AUST’s commitment to developing professional capabilities, promoting technological awareness, and preparing security personnel to navigate a rapidly evolving digital landscape. It also underscores the importance of responsible innovation and the role of academic expertise in strengthening national security and institutional readiness.
