The LEaD English Programmes have been developed for students who want a different kind of learning experience. The emphasis is on learning, not teaching, the emphasis is on students being in charge of their own learning with the teacher having the role of Engaging the student in that self managed learning and helping with guidance, each student to develop skills they need and want, not skills that are part of some universal programme of teaching which actually fits no-one's needs perfectly, or for many not even closely. The programmes are based on learner centred educational research - see http://www.buildinglearningpower.co.uk/
The approach used is designed by Dr Graham Rawlinson, who has
known Guy Claxton from Building Learning Power for many years. The programmes are also based on a deep understanding of what we now know about how the brain learns - see http://ritacarter.co.uk/page3.htm
Graham and Rita Carter have shared thinking about minds and learning also for many years. Graham spent many years working as an educational psychologist in England and Australia. He began his career as an Innovator in Education when he wrote TV Programmes called Make it Count in 1976! He also co-wrote the Maths Workbooks with a lecturer in Mathematics at Nottingham University, books which sold for more than 20 years around the world. Graham also was Director of Enterprise at the University of Surrey in England and was an Innovation Consultant for Synectics Europe (now Synectics World), working with big and small companies around the world, like Coca-Cola and Hewlett Packard. Self managed learning gets away from the idea that the teacher feeds the student with knowledge. It is better that the student takes responsibility for understanding what they need to learn and works to achieve the goals they set for themselves, with the guidance of the teacher of course. If you want to know more, get in touch, and maybe sign up! Or why not try a free lesson, but you have to book first!
