Pink Ribbon Week is officially underway! 🎀

We kicked off our lunchtime activities on campus with Monday’s Handprint Activity and today’s Cupcake Sale hosted by our parent community. Small actions like these are building momentum as we head into the main event.

This entire week of activities is organized and driven by our wonderful Parents & Friends group. A huge thank you to everyone in our community who donated their time, effort, and baking talents to make this week so meaningful!

Our recent assemblies brought energy and connection to both sides of campus! 🌟

Grade 5 expanded our Humans of VIS initiative by spotlighting the incredible staff members who keep our school running behind the scenes. Through interviews and a fun trivia challenge, students helped us get to know the faces and stories beyond the classroom.

Over in Secondary, the Student Leadership Council took charge, wrapping up recent house events and launching a campus-wide scavenger hunt that got everyone moving and working together.

Through PYP Immersions, Grades 1–5 step into cross-grade learning bands to explore their passions and build essential Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.

This first round is teacher-led and packed with hands-on inquiry. In Grades 1–2, young learners are diving into projects like gardening, playground art, baking, cardboard inventing, and exploring stories of courageous people standing up for social justice. Meanwhile, Grades 3–5 are taking on campus design, creating original board games, cooking, photography, starting the VIS News team, and even designing a climbing wall!

By connecting across grade levels, students build agency, discover new interests, and learn what it means to take meaningful action in their community. We cannot wait to see where their curiosity leads them as these projects unfold.

Art and science converged in the Zen Gallery this past week as two of our talented VIS parents shared their craft with our community. One artist showcased the precise elegance of Japanese calligraphy, while the other exhibited a meditative collection of watercolors exploring the intelligence of plant life, cellular patterns, and the beauty of nature under a microscope.

The experience extended beyond the gallery as both parents led hands-on workshops with our Secondary students. In one session, students practiced precision and traditional brush methods in calligraphy. In Anja’s workshop, students looked closely at plant tissues and leaves under a microscope, using those natural grids and fluid watercolor techniques to translate microscopic structures onto paper.

A huge thank you to both parents for inspiring our students!

Ask any student, teacher, or alumnus what defines Vientiane International School, and the answer is almost always the same: our community. It is the thread that runs through everything we do, and it is the reason so many of our alumni continually return to visit the campus they once called home.

You see that connection everywhere. It is in the way our Dragon Ambassadors stepped up to guide parents during Back to School Night, how we share food at community potlucks, gather for a traditional Baci ceremony, and wear our 35-year spirit shirts with pride. It shows up when students collaborate and/or support on cross-divisional activities like the Potato Olympics, and when our staff challenge themselves through Humans of VIS to ensure every face on campus is known by name.

Community isn't just a place or a moment in time; it is who we are. As we look forward to gathering for events like the Pink Ribbon Fundraiser, we are reminded that no matter where our Dragons go, they always remain a part of this home.
