What is a collocation? ຄຳຜະສົມແມ່ນຫຍັງ?
A collocation is a combination of two or more words which frequently occur together. ຄຳຜະສົມແມ່ນການປະສົມກັນຂອງສອງຫຼືຫຼາຍກວ່າສອງຄຳເຂົ້າກັນ. If someone says, 'She's got yellow hair.' they probably be understood, but it is not what would ordinary be said in English. ຖ້າມີຄົນເວົ້າວ່າ, 'ລາວມີຜົມສີເຫຼືອງ' ມັນອາດເປັນທີ່ເຂົ້າໃຈໄດ້, ແຕ່ປົກກະຕິຄົນອັງກິດຈະບໍ່ສູ້ເວົ້າກັນ. 'We'd say, 'She's got blond hair'. ພວກເຮົາອາດເວົ້າວ່າ, 'ລາວມີຜົມສີທອງ' in other words, yellow doesn't collocate with hair in every English. ອີກດ້ານໜຶ່ງ, ສີເຫຼືອງຈະບໍ່ໃຊ້ກັບຜົມໃນພາສາອັງກິດ. Yellow collocates with, say, flowers or paint. ສີເຫຼືອງຈະໃຊ້ກັບ, ເຊັ່ນ ດອກໄມ້ ຫຼື ສີທາ.
