My name is Bounthavy Thongkham and I established the "Xaysavang English and Computer Learning Center", which is located in Savannakhet, Laos on 12 Sep 2011. To let the Center be a place to meet children and teenagers who would like to improve their English and computer skills to better their lives.
2. To form good relationships with the students and help them to develop self-awareness and discover their dreams.
3. To support students who cannot afford high tuition fee.
4. To encourage young people to study English well and challenge them to go to study abroad.
5. To provide job opportunities for local English teachers.
6. To prevent drug using by providing meaningful activities in our center, such as learning English, computer skills, singing, playing guitar & ukulele, B-boy dancing, playing sports, holding Christmas, Children’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Women’s Day celebrations, etc.
7. To provide food and daily necessities to the poor, the disabled, the old people, the widows, etc.
8. To welcome volunteers from overseas to teach in our center so as to provide opportunities for our students to practice speaking English. The "Xaysavang English and Computer Learning Center" does not only provide jobs to their teachers and learning opportunities to students but also focuses on increasing their capabilities to help them to lead a positive lifestyles and enabling them to achieve good health, self-value, hope, to learn about responsibility, teamwork, love and self-acceptance and of others, not delighting in evil but rejoicing in truth, etc. Over the years, I have seen that many of them have changed their attitudes. They have hope in their lives and care more about their families and each other now. For example, some of them have given up spending money on drinking beer and buying new clothes, and slowly changed their destructive lifestyles into happier and wholesome lifestyles. The highest profit of “Xaysavang English and Computer Learning Center” is not monetary but is my happiness to see things happen and change for the better. My intention is to create beautiful memories for both my teachers and students! That is what I want and it really makes me happy every day.
