Some time ago, we visited our equally beautiful neighboring country, Cambodia, to visit a few places in the north of that country. Among other places, we visited an island in the Mekong (named Koh Trong) opposite the city of Kratie. An island with many similarities to Don Som, but also with some differences. A beautiful island to see Cambodian life on a Mekong island, just as people come here to see Laotian life on a Mekong island.

We stayed at Pomelo Homestay with Mr. Vireak, who runs the homestay with great dedication.

If you are traveling to Cambodia from our location (or before you come here), we recommend considering Kratie and Koh Trong as well, just as we recommend Banlung.

It's wet and rainy now, but also green and the nature (river) in full power. No guests at the moment and most likely in September we will not have many (or no...) guests. Time to paint, clean, organize, think, do administration etc. etc.

Tripadvisor is not used very often anymore it seems but the last review was a very nice one :-)

My stay at the Gueshouse of Tanoi and Sander was a highlight of my Laos trip. I was recommended accommodation by friends, so I have already arrived with a higher expectation than normal. Even before arrival, the contact and helpfulness was great and has simplified the planning by a lot. The accommodation located directly on the Mekong with hammock to just chill out and watch the fishermen. On the island there is only this one guest house, the island itself is very rural and you can experience the original Laos. Tasting in the guest house is delicious and through the common room you will also find good contact with other travelers if desired. Scooters can be rented to reach and explore the neighboring island of Don Det by ferry. I was also able to attend a cooking class at the property, starting from visiting the market to preparing on the coal-fired BBQ/stove. For the children of the village, there is a community center that the two have started, here you can help if you have time and desire.

An experience-rich and relaxing stay! Little tip: If you have a light sleep, take earplugs with you - the river rushes, the frogs squawk, a stray goat bleats and the fishermen start their engines quite early to do their job.'
