and experience a general orientation to the program. One of the key elements of orientation is facilitated
interactions with the class cohort, who will become
learning partners and advisors through the length of the
program. Following a holiday break, the core curriculum will
begin in January. Each core course requires some level
of pre-course preparation, and time in the classroom
is intense. Classes begin on Saturday and end on
Monday during the first week, with students returning
to work from Tuesday to Friday, then returning to the
classroom Saturday and Sunday. During the course of
study, EMBA students will participate in an immersive
learning experience studying and residing on Nazarbayev
University’s campus. They will then go back to their
workplace, only to return to campus the next weekend
for two more days of intense instruction. Exams will take place two weeks after
the final class on the Nazarbayev University campus, or
at an approved location. In January 2014, as part of the fourth term, EMBA
students travel to Duke University’s Fuqua School of
Business in Durham, N.C., USA, and take part in a twoweek
intensive residency. Here, EMBA students will
have a unique opportunity to engage themselves in
learning business in a global context, and expand their
personal and professional networks. Over five terms, EMBA students will complete twelve
core courses that span all functional areas of business
and three elective courses that allow for specialization
in a particular discipline or broadening knowledge
in several areas. Instruction will be in English with
simultaneous Russian translation. EMBA students finalize their course of study by
completing the EMBA thesis, prepared during the 21
