Astana Toastmasters Club is the platfrom for public speaking and leadership lessons. The average meeting lasts one hour. ATC Policies:
1. Table topic session:
a.
First Toastmaster club not only in Astana but in Kazakhstan and Central Asia devoted to improve public speaking and leadership skills. Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or gra
mmarian. There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved. Here's how it works:
A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly atmosphere. A typical group has 20 to 40 members who meet weekly or biweekly to practice public speaking techniques. Members learn communication skills by working in the Competent Communication manual, a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking. Participants learn skills related to use of humor, gestures, eye contact, speech organization and overall delivery. When finished with this manual, members can choose from 15 advanced manuals to learn skills related to specific interests. Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles and serving as officers at the club and district levels, and by working in the Competent Leadership manual and the High Performance Leadership program. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture our members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and ask them to lead. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings, serve as officers in various leadership roles and learn rules related to timing, grammar and parliamentary procedure. Thousands of corporations sponsor in-house Toastmasters clubs. Businesses and government organizations have discovered that Toastmasters is an effective, cost-efficient means of meeting their communication training needs. Toastmasters groups also can be found in governmental agencies, as well as in a variety of community organizations, prisons, universities, hospitals, military bases and churches. Each meeting of ATC is comprised of 3 parts:
Prepared speeches
Table Topic Session (TTS)
Evaluation
2. both members and guests can participate
b. ≤22 minutes length
c. 6-8 questions = 6-8 answers (short 1-2 min impromptu speeches)
d. each speaker can perform only once per TTS
e. only one vote can be given by each meeting participant for the best Table Topic Speaker in the end of TTS
f. the best Table Topic Speakers of the quarter and of the year are announced and awarded
3. Prepared speeches are delivered by ATC members according to manuals. Guests can reserve a place to give an Ice-breaking speech. Reserved speakers have to be ready to perform at the reserved day in case any scheduled speaker is absent.
4. Evaluation. One can perform Evaluator role as long as he/she accomplishes the project under evaluation by himself/herself.
5. Roles of Toastmaster, Table Topic Master, Evaluator and General Evaluator are supposed to be taken by members only. Guests can reserve any available roles of Ah-counter, Timer or Grammarian and get ATC membership according to the rules.
6. Toastmaster and General Evaluator should do the best to post coming meeting agenda 2 days before the meeting.
7. Speakers and role takers should show up on the meeting. If they can't come they should inform Toastmaster or VP Education at least 1 hour before the meeting. If role taker does not inform Toastmaster or VP Education at least 1 hour in advance about his/her absence, they will not be able to take any roles at Toastmasters meeting during 1 (one) month from absent meeting.
8. Toastmaster is responsible for meeting organization, tip of the day providing, agenda preparation, word of the day publication, counting votes for Best table topic speaker, Speech evaluator and follow up note delivering after the meeting. Find out more at www.toastmasters.org
