Students’ Fears and Emotions Before a New Stage.
Olena Slonska, Senior Talent Development Specialist at EPAM
Remember your first day before starting university or a new semester? That mix of excitement and fear - “Will I manage?”, “Do I have enough energy to combine it all?”
These emotions are normal. Fear doesn’t mean you’re not ready. It just signals that something important is beginning.
1. Doubt is not an enemy but a call to action. When a student feels nervous before an interview or a new course, that moment is an opportunity for growth. Use fear as fuel to prepare better.
2. Stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone has their own rhythm. Some start working during their first year, others later — both paths are fine. Careers are not races, they are marathons.
3. Ask for support. Managers, teachers, coaches — they are not just observers; they are partners. Most of them have walked this path and can help make yours easier.
The hardest part is rarely the work or the studies themselves — it’s dealing with our doubts. But right behind those doubts lies the quiet confidence that we are stronger and more capable than we think.

Make the Most of Your Learning Journey.
Yulyana Huliayeva , Senior Talent Development Specialist at EPAM
Approach your studies with intention — not with the mindset of “doing the minimum to pass.”
EPAM School training programs offer a lot: valuable materials, experienced mentors, and real interaction. The more you take from this process, the more meaningful and impactful your learning becomes.
From the very beginning, let go of the “all or nothing” mindset. Combining work and study is not easy — there will always be moments when things feel harder than expected. That’s perfectly fine. Not everything needs to be perfect; progress matters more than perfection.
Even when time is short, don’t give up completely. Reading for 20 minutes or simply reflecting on an assignment still matters — it’s always better than doing nothing.

A Coaching Perspective: How to Stay Focused and Energized
“Successfully combining studies and work often depends less on time management and more on energy management. You can have a perfect plan, but without energy it will fall apart.”
Natalia Ostashko, PhD, ICF, Senior Program Program Manager at EPAM.
1. Start your day with a quick energy check. Ask yourself, “What do I have energy for today?” It’s not always 100%. Sometimes doing less, but with intention, brings better results.
2. Schedule recovery, not just tasks. Short walks between classes, a break from screens, or an evening offline are not signs of laziness — they are long‑term productivity strategies.
3. Clarify your mission. When you clearly understand WHY you study or work, motivation stays strong even through stressful weeks.
Balancing work and study is not just a challenge - it’s a path to maturity. It teaches you to choose, to realign, and to trust yourself. Once students realize that, they grow not only professionally but personally - they become more resilient, self‑aware, and grounded.
