In April 1955, the news of Albert Einsteinโs death left the legendary physicist ๐๐ข๐ต๐บ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ณ๐ข ๐๐ข๐ต๐ฉ ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ฆ stunned into silence. Bose was deeply shaken; at the time, he was working on a research paper that he had hoped to discuss with Einstein at an upcoming conference in Switzerland to celebrate fifty years of ๐๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ค๐ช๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ท๐ช๐ต๐บ. Overwhelmed by grief, Bose tore the unpublished manuscript to pieces.
Three decades earlier, in 1924, Bose had made a breakthrough in deriving Planckโs law using a new statistical treatment of photons. After his paper was rejected by the Philosophical Magazine, he sent the manuscript directly to Einstein on 4 June 1924, explaining that he had developed a more compelling derivation. Einstein immediately recognized the significance of Boseโs work, translated the paper into German, and arranged for its publication in ๐ก๐ฆ๐ช๐ต๐ด๐ค๐ฉ๐ณ๐ช๐ง๐ต ๐งรผ๐ณ ๐๐ฉ๐บ๐ด๐ช๐ฌ.
Their brief but profound correspondence soon led Einstein to extend Boseโs method to atoms, resulting in the prediction of what we now call ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ฆโ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ. The publication of the first paper with Einsteinโs strong endorsement made Bose internationally famous.
