Mental Arithmetic International Competition Press Release.
Being part of an international intellectual competition for children is the best motivation to study further.
June 23-24, 2018 in the emirate of Dubai World Association of Mental Arithmetic Schools (WAMAS) held the largest international competition among pupils and instructors (teachers) of mental mathematics. Taking part in this level competition motivates children for further development and education, and also sets a lead to the development of schools and centers.
“A large number of this competition participants were from the CIS, which indicates the willingness of parents and schools to enter the international level and show better results” – says the chairman of the WAMAS association Gulzhan Berdibekova Rapikovna.
The WAMAS-2018 Competition gathered together in one hall 379 participants. Simultaneously children performed more than 35 000 mathematical problems of different levels of complexity – solved on the abacus (soroban) and mentally. Most of Competition participants then have noted, that the event as a whole was held at a high level, as for academic part so the organizational issues. The venue for holding the WAMAS-2018 have been a five-star Intercontinental Dubai Festival City in Dubai (UAE).
“We constantly take part in different international Competition, and WAMAS-2018 left us with a great impression. We will definitely participate next year, with even more children. Our students were very pleased to receive a cash prize – this is clearly very motivating. To receive cups and diplomas is a confirmation of participation and victory, but the money prize turned out to be a real reward for children” says Mr. Tarik Harmush, Doctor of pedagogical sciences from Lebanon. Lebanon at the Competition have been represented by iSmart school with a group of 37 people.
Eight countries representing more than 30 schools met on the one stage. One of the largest group was from the ISMA school, Kyrgyzstan. Consul of the Association WAMAS Kyrgyzstan and General Director of ISMA Kyrgyzstan Ms. Diana Ermekovna Rysbaeva has noted: “Despite the fact that the economic situation of the country does not allow each family to constantly travel abroad, our group of children is an indicator that parents are investing large amounts of money in to an education of their children. This is very good to see, because good education provided to children is the future of the country”.
ISMA school from Russia, headed by the WAMAS Consul in Russia Ms. Elena Zholobova, shown good results and proved the effectiveness of their teaching methods. On the example of their friendly team, they showed that participating in this Competition unites parents, instructors (teachers), schools representatives and of course, children.
Children from For Armenia for the first time took part in mental math international Competition. ABAC School, Yerevan obtained an opportunity to promote themselves on the international market, and this is a unique experience and an undeniable achievement for the school principal Ms. Diana Hovhannisyan.
The most active and bright at all competition days and out of all participants, were the representatives of Ukraine – Indigo Mental Club school, headed by Ms. Marina Muzhanovsky. This school students won a several cups and medals, which became a loudly published event in Kiev.
General Director of the Intellectual Development Center ADVANCE Ms. Merey Yedolova is a member of the counting board on the Competition. “As a member of the counting board and based on the results of the competition, I am confident that all the results are fair and the competition held transparent. I was personally very pleased with the news that WAMAS-2019 will be held in Turkey. We plan to bring more than 100 children in year 2019 competition,” said Ms. Merey Edilova, who is also the consul of WAMAS from Kazakhstan.
The largest group at the Competition comprised students of ISMA schools from different cities of Kazakhstan. They showed one of the best results as the group and increased the number of cups of the country basket. Ms. Nurilya Lukpanova, WAMAS Consul from Kazakhstan, headed a group from the Zhanaozen.
Mental mathematics schools in Azerbaijan use the ISMA methodology, so they were participating both, the Competition for children and the Competition for instructors.
The General Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Dubai and northern Emirates Mr. Madiyar Smadilovich Madilbekov visited this event to support compatriots and congratulate all WAMAS-2018 participants. The General Consulate lent an assistance and support in sponsoring the office of the event organization.
Special guest of the WAMAS-2018 Competition was representative of the SEMAS school, Dr. Pushpanatan from India, he visited Dubai to personally assess the competition conducting quality. Dr. Pushpanatan has many years of experience in holding mental mathematics competitions and highly appreciated the WAMAS-2018 organization, and is interested in the partnership in Central Asia and expressed the willingness to bring participants from his region.
Gifts for children were sponsored by Best Food Company, Emirates, which provided unlimited number of sweets for all participants. Event was also supported by the Fly Dubai airlines, Samruk Kazyna fund, Alfa Events Company, consulting company in Dubai Garant Business Consultancy, Voyage Tours Company and Intercontinental Dubai Festival City Hotel.
One of the ways to develop mental mathematics is to handle international Competitions, which reflects the popularity all over the world. It is proven that studying mental mathematics followed by full develop the child’s personality, goes with positive results in the school and in general contributes to better intellectual development of child.
Here the international competitions reflect which methods are developed for worth and provide children with high quality education.
WAMAS Competitions are not just contest, but also an opportunity for children to exert their intelligence, and for parents to see the results of education. Besides, competitions held during summer holidays and in locations where mental math Competition participation can be combined with a pleasant vacation.
Only the best schools which are ready to internationally announce the results of contest and educational level of their students, bring participants to the WAMAS Competition. Open judging and transparency of the competition provides an opportunity to declare and to confirm their effectiveness only for the best methods.
WAMAS-2019 will be held in Antalya (Turkey) on June 24-25, 2019.

Additionally WAMAS association members schools are from Uzbekistan, Belorussia and Bulgary.
7 contestants took part at instructors competition.
Total number of competitions participants amounted to – 379 person.
Total number of participants together with parents, attendants and school representatives was over- 700 person.
